Eating disorder recovery rarely feels simple or linear.

Some days feel hopeful.

Other days can feel heavy, uncertain, or exhausting.

None of this means recovery isn’t working.

Healing often happens slowly, in ways that are hard to see at first.

Over time, the eating disorder voice begins to soften and more space opens up for the rest of your life.

It’s a journey — and you don’t have to navigate it alone.

Many people delay reaching out for support because of thoughts like these.
“I’m not sick enough.”
“I should be able to fix this myself.”
“If I recover I’ll lose control.”

When you’re living with an eating disorder, these thoughts can feel incredibly convincing.

But very often, they are part of the illness itself.. not a reflection of whether you truly deserve support.

You do not need to reach a crisis point before asking for help.

We’d love to know if any of these thoughts ever stopped you from reaching out for support, or if there are any we missed.

Let us know if you feel comfortable sharing 🤍

Research suggests that a large proportion of people who develop eating disorders are also navigating other mental health challenges.

These experiences can influence how an eating disorder develops, how it shows up in everyday life, and what kind of support will be most helpful in recovery.

This is why effective recovery support looks beyond food alone. It adapts to the individual, meeting you where you are and supporting the full picture of your experience.

At Natural Food Therapy, we focus on the whole person — their emotional world, life experiences, and the patterns that sit underneath the eating disorder.

✨ If you’re looking for recovery support that considers the bigger picture, you can learn more about our 1-1 coaching through the link in our bio.

One of the most harmful myths about eating disorders is that you have to be underweight to be struggling.

In reality, research shows that less than 6% of people with eating disorders are medically underweight.

Eating disorders affect people across all body sizes.

Yet many people delay reaching out for support because they believe they are “not sick enough” to deserve help.

If food, eating, or body thoughts are taking over your life, that is already enough reason to seek support.

You deserve care no matter what.

✨ If you recognise yourself in this, you can learn more about our 1-1 recovery support through the link in our bio.

You don’t need to feel ready to begin recovery.
Most people don’t.

Feeling unsure, conflicted, or afraid is completely normal. It doesn’t mean you’re doing it wrong.

If there is even a small part of you that wants things to feel different, that is enough to begin.

You don’t need certainty.
You just need that part.

If you’re feeling that pull towards change and want support, you can apply for 1:1 recovery coaching with us via the link in our bio 💜

Restriction is not always obvious.

Often, it shows up quietly. In habits that feel normal. In rules that have gone unquestioned. In patterns that once felt helpful.

Noticing these moments is not about judging yourself.

It is about becoming curious about what your body might need instead.

Awareness creates choice.

And that’s where recovery can begin 🌿

Many people hesitate to seek support because they do not have a formal diagnosis, or because they feel they are not struggling enough.

Eating disorders and disordered eating do not always fit neatly into diagnostic boxes.

What matters is the impact food and body thoughts are having on your life, your wellbeing, and your sense of peace.

✨You do not need permission to ask for help.
✨You do not need to reach a breaking point to be taken seriously.

If food, eating, or your body are taking up more space than you want them to, that is reason enough to seek support.

If you’re unsure whether your struggles are “serious enough”, we’re always happy to talk. You can DM us or apply for 1:1 support via the link in our bio.

Comments like these are often well intentioned, but they can miss the mark.

👉 Talking about appearance can reinforce shame or comparison.
👉 Saying “just eat” can minimise how frightening and complex recovery can feel.
👉 Diet talk, body comments, or remarks about what someone is eating can quickly trigger comparison and distress for someone struggling.

If you are supporting someone through an eating disorder, it can be hard to know what to say.

What helps most is listening without judgement, believing their experience, and staying emotionally present as they move through recovery.

Our new mini course for loved ones offers clear guidance on what truly helps, what to avoid, and how to support someone without pushing them away.

Comment or DM ‘CARE’ and we’ll send you the details 💗

Many people begin recovery after years of feeling misunderstood, dismissed, or alone with their thoughts.

Feeling truly understood does not mean someone assumes they know exactly what you are going through. It means being supported by people who understand eating disorders deeply, often through both professional training and lived experience, while still recognising that every recovery story is different.

It means not having to explain every thought, justify your fears, or prove that you are struggling enough. It means being met with curiosity instead of assumptions, and care instead of comparison.

At Natural Food Therapy, this matters deeply to us 💟

Our coaches bring both expertise and lived understanding to their work, while always honouring your individuality. We do not tell you who to be or how your recovery should look. We listen, we adapt, and we support you to find what works for you.

Because recovery does not happen when you are moulded into someone else’s path.
It happens when you feel safe enough to be honest, supported, and truly yourself.

If you are looking for recovery support where you feel genuinely understood and respected, you can learn more about our 1:1 coaching via the link in our bio or message us to talk things through.

Many of the people we support are highly driven, deeply caring, and emotionally sensitive.

These traits are strengths.

They often show up as empathy, dedication, creativity, and a rich inner world.

But within a culture built on pressure, expectations, and control around food and bodies, these same traits can also increase vulnerability to eating disorders.

✨ Wanting to do things well.
✨ Being hard on yourself when you feel you fall short.
✨ Putting others’ needs before your own.

Recovery is not about changing who you are. It is about learning how to lean into the parts of you that serve you, while also protecting yourself with care, boundaries, and support.

This is something we support clients with every day in our 1:1 recovery coaching.

If this resonates and you want help learning how to work with your nature, not against it, you can apply to our programme via the link in our bio.

Healing your relationship with food does not usually arrive in big, obvious moments. More often, it shows up quietly.

✨ In the way guilt passes more quickly.
✨ In how your thoughts move on instead of looping.
✨ In your ability to adapt when things change, rather than panic.

These shifts are easy to overlook.
But they matter.

If even one of these signs felt familiar, you are moving in the right direction.

Healing does not have to be perfect to be real 💗

Save this if you need the reminder.
