💙 A special moment for our local community at Icon Cancer Centre London (CCL) in Wimbledon...

Yesterday evening, we marked an important milestone at CCL with the official recognition of new radiotherapy technology that is already helping patients every day.

This advanced treatment technology allows our clinical teams to deliver radiotherapy with greater accuracy and efficiency, meaning shorter treatment times, a more comfortable experience, and highly personalised care tailored to each individual.

The milestone was celebrated with our team, partners and members of the local community, including the Deputy Mayor of Merton, Councillor Shuile Syeda, who joined us to recognise what this investment means for patients in our region.

For our patients and families, this milestone reflects our ongoing commitment to providing world-class cancer care, close to home, supported by expert clinicians and the latest advances in treatment.

Thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate - and to our incredible teams who support patients with compassion and care every day.

One month of care, compassion and teamwork 💙

It’s been one month since we treated our first patient on our new linear accelerator (radiotherapy treatment machine) – and we wanted to pause to celebrate the people behind it.

Our radiographers, physics team and doctors have worked tirelessly to bring this treatment to life, always focused on what matters most: our patients.

As Alison, Icon Cancer Centre London’s Treatment Lead Radiographer, shared:

“This technology helps us treat with incredible precision, protecting healthy tissue and helping make a challenging time a little easier for the people in our care.”

Recently, one of our very first patients wrote a thank you card to the team, telling them how kind, considerate and caring they had been during a stressful and uncertain time. Messages like that mean everything to us.

To everyone who trusts us with their care – and to the incredible team you see pictured here – thank you. This first month has reminded us that while technology matters, it’s people who make the real difference.

This year we’ve significantly expanded our cancer care to more communities, introducing new technology and opening a total of 5 centres to bring cancer care closer to home for as many people as possible.

Lucy’s story is one of hope, resilience and new beginnings.

A lump found during a routine shower led to a diagnosis Lucy never expected. After surgery at Nuffield Health Parkside Hospital and radiotherapy at Icon Cancer Centre London where she felt supported every step of the way, she was determined to take back control of her recover in the short and long term.

That journey inspired a new purpose: retraining as a breast cancer rehab specialist so she can help others feel stronger and connected to their bodies again.
