Happy St. Brigid’s Day ☘️

St. Brigid is the patroness saint of Ireland born in fifth century Ireland, possibly the daughter of a chieftain.

Her story is a blended one of folk tale and Christian account which I find really interesting and sometimes difficult to disentangle.

My favourite story of her is the story of the cloak. According to tradition, when Brigid asked the king of Leinster for land to build her monastery, he agreed to only give her as much land as her cloak would cover. When Brigid laid her cloak on the ground, it miraculously spread to cover a few acres and the king was compelled to grant her the land.

Another story I love about her is the story of St. Brigid’s Cross. She was visiting the home of a local chieftain or pagan leader who was dying. As she sat by his bedside, she noticed rushes scattered on the floor, which were commonly used at the time. She began to weave them into a simple cross while speaking to him about her faith and explaining the story of Christ. As she worked, she spoke gently about life, death, and hope, the man watching her weave and listening to her words is said to have accepted faith before he died. The cross itself was left behind, and people began to copy it as a sign of faith and protection.

She is also associated with healing and holy wells throughout Ireland, especially in Kildare 🌿

I often think about Ireland when I read one of my favourite verses:

‘Stand at the crossroads and look, ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is and walk in it, and you will find rest for your soul’ 🕊️

Song of Songs 2: 1-3 with 🌷

Was so fun learning this beautiful song ‘chavatzelet’ by with Yaron playing the Persian tar 🪕

The words are:

Ani chavatzelet hasharon, shoshanat ha’amakim
(I am the rose of Sharon, a lily of the valleys)

Keshoshana ben hachochim, ken ra’ayati
(Like a lily among thorns is my darling among the young women)

Ketapuach ba’atzei haya’ar
(Like an apple tree among the trees of the forest)

Ken dodi ben habanim
(So is my beloved among the young men)

Betzilo chimadedi veyashavti
(I delight to sit in its shade)

Ufiryo matok lechiki
(And its fruit is sweet to my taste)

2/10 ~ Overstimulation 🌿

Welcome to my January series, where I’ll be sharing ten informative videos focused on winter wellness and gently beginning the new year with a sense of peace and calm. Today’s topic is overstimulation.

As a highly sensitive person, everyday things like social activities, meeting new people, or loud environments can feel especially draining

Highly sensitive people process the world more deeply, which can make daily life feel overwhelming at times. The world is often noisy and overstimulating, and it isn’t always designed with sensitive nervous systems in mind.

Here are some things we can focus on in the new year, both in the moment and preventatively.
In the moment:

~ Step away to a safe space and find a quiet or dimly lit environment to reduce sensory input

~ Practice deep breathing to help calm your nervous system

~ Ground yourself by listening to a familiar song or putting on a comforting show or video

~ Check in with yourself and ask what you need in that moment

Preventative strategies:

~ Schedule regular downtime so your nervous system has time to reset

~ Set boundaries by learning to say no to social events that you know will overwhelm or burn you out

~ Limit triggers such as loud noise, constant stimulation, or crowded spaces when possible

~ Spend time in nature, which can be naturally regulating

~ Communicate your needs clearly and gently to the people around you

Let me know if you find these ideas helpful, or if you’d like me to focus on other therapeutic tools in another video 🌿🎶

‘Seasons’ ~ in the forest by the low winter sun 🌻

1/10 Living in Season 🌿

Welcome to my Winter Wellness series.

Over the month of January, I’ll be sharing 10 posts focused on ways to gently support yourself and bring a sense of calm into the new year.

Today’s topic is living in season.

The ground doesn’t force vegetation to please the one who planted it.

Bears hibernate, crops rest, and humans are the only ones who believe they don’t need to recharge.

We are seasonal beings. Just like nature, our bodies and minds go through cycles, especially women, and honoring these rhythms can help us feel more balanced and connected.

Winter is naturally a time for rest, reflection, and slowing down.

It’s a chance to recharge, turn inward, and focus on what nourishes us.

It’s important to reflect on the past year in order to step into the sacred future.

Ways I try to live in season:

~ Allowing myself extra rest and downtime when I need it

~ Spending time in nature and noticing the quiet, slower energy of the season

~ Eating seasonal foods that feel grounding and nourishing

~ Reflecting on the past year and setting gentle intentions for the year ahead

~ Reducing overstimulation and time on screens to match the slower pace of winter

Living in season reminds me that it’s okay to slow down. I don’t have to always be doing or achieving.

It’s good to focus on being fruitful rather than productive or feeling like a robot.

I can rest, reflect, and care for myself in ways that honor our God-designed rhythm.

In this series, I plan to talk about the nervous system, hypervigilance, anxiety, boundaries, and productivity.

Please let me know if there are any other topics you’d like me to cover though and I’ll do my best 🪉
