In a world of multitasking and sensory overload, the body's nervous system is often sent into a state of imbalance, and it speaks to us through the symptoms we experience. We understand these symptoms are all too familiar to many of us.
Here are 4 More Gentle Ways to Reset Your Nervous System at Home
The 4-7-8 Breath:
Inhale for 4 seconds, hold for 7, and exhale slowly through your mouth for 8. This "hacks" your vagus nerve to trigger a relaxation response. Keeping your exhale longer than your inhale works a treat!
Physiological Sigh:
Take a deep breath in, then a second short "sip" of air at the very top, followed by a long, audible sigh out.
Grounding (5-4-3-2-1):
Acknowledge 5 things you see, 4 you can touch, 3 you hear, 2 you smell, and 1 you can taste to pull your brain out of "survival mode."
Weight & Pressure:
Use a weighted blanket or simply lie on the floor with your legs up the wall for 5 minutes to help your body feel supported. P.S. we use weighed sandbags in all our classes listed below 😊
