Nail Reconstruction

This is my 29 year old client. She came to me years ago with damaged big toe nails. We discussed her options.
1) Leave them and no change. Regular podiatry appointments to keep them pain free and shape them as best as possible
Or
2) A total nail avulsion with no chemical ablation of the root.

We decided on option 2. We removed the damaged nail and waited a year to see how the nail grew back. She came to see me every 3 months to monitor the nail and remove dead skin from the nail bed to make sire nothing hindered the growth of the nail. Unfortunately her nail didn't grow back perfectly.

She doesn't want the nail removed permanently so we have opted for nail reconstruction.

I have made her a bespoke, cosmetically reconstructed nail using a light cured gel. She will be able to treat it like a real nail by filing it to maintain the length she wants and painting it with nail varnish.

She has got the confidence to now get her feet out on holiday!

🌀 Paronychia 🌀

This is the infection or inflammation of the skin around the toenail, usually along the nail folds. It can affect one or more toenails, and may be acute (sudden and short-term) or chronic (long-lasting and recurring).

Acute Paronychia Is when minor trauma can allow bacteria to enter the skin around the nail.
• Examples:
• Ingrown toenail (onychocryptosis)
• Nail biting or picking
• Aggressive nail trimming
• Wearing tight shoes
• Pedicure-related injury.

Chronic Paronychia

Usually due to repeated irritation or prolonged moisture exposure, which weakens the skin barrier.
• Can be associated with fungal infection
Constant exposure to water, soaps, or chemicals (common in hairdressers, cleaners, or swimmers)
• Poor foot hygiene
• Diabetes or immune suppression

Symptoms
• Redness and swelling around the nail fold
• Pain and tenderness (especially when wearing shoes)
• Warmth at the site
• Pus formation (in acute cases)
• Thickened, discolored, or ridged nail (in chronic cases)

If this doesn't settle within 4-6 weeks we recommend a total nail avulsion in order to remove the traumatised nail and let a better nail grow back better.

This lady had wore tight ballet pumps AND had a pedicure where chemicals had seeps into the cuticle and gone to the root.

This is a fanned shaped nail. These types of nails are prone to becoming ingrowing and ending up like the top picture if it isn't treated as soon as the nail becomes uncomfortable. Things that can speed up the process of it becoming a problem are ill fitting shoes ( too small, too narrow, slip on shoes, too tight).

Nail surgery is the best treatment for this type of nail. Here I have performed a bilateral partial nail avulsion with phenolisation of the nail bed.

I have removed small section of the nail. Only what is necessary and made sure the end look of the nail will be aesthetically pleasing for this patient. There won't be huge gaps on the side they will heal up over 4-6 weeks providing you adhere to post op instructions.

Balenciaga! Have you gone Ga!Ga!

Are you mad?!? Are you going to be breaking the bank balance to cop these?

Firstly, the heel greatly reduces you base of support making you more prone to falling over! Secondly, there is no cushioning so the balls of your feet are going to OST definitely be in pain. And lastly, it’s a croc….nuff said mate! A fusion of disaster from a podiatrists point of view!

If you are going to be a follower of fashion and this hype then I fully recommend you invest in a podiatrist as you are going to need one! Oh hey!!

👣‘No looking back the only way is forward’ 👣

Life is full of surprises and can change from one day to the next. But we ride the wave and find solutions not obstacles.

I wasn’t planning on reducing my NHS work so soon but the opportunity arose and I took it!

I now have the opportunity to add value to my time and explore other passions of mine and grow and develop my business. I really may be able to ‘retire’ at 40. Prove those people wrong who doubted me.

This Friday Bank Holiday myself and a whole load of super stars will be live at Veer' s Virtual Extravaganza!!
