A spinal arachnoid diverticulum (sad) is pouch of fluid within the subarachnoid space, which is located between the meninges. The meninges are thin layers of tissue surrounding the brain and spinal cord.

Surgery is the recommended treatment for SAD
If surgery is not possible, anti-inflammatories and physiotherapy can be attempted to try to slow the progression of the disease.

Up to 80% of dogs improve following surgery, though transient post-operative deterioration is very common. Recurrence of clinical signs has been reported in around 20% of dogs. One possible cause of recurrence is not addressing predisposing factors such as vertebral instability, which is why it is so important to thoroughly investigate this prior to planning surgery.

Cerberus (black pug) had surgery roughly 3 years ago for his first cyst, but unfortunatly it came back and Cerberus is quite old now, so the owner opted not to repeat the surgery.
He is happy and in good spirit, on wheels now but still having hydrotherapy to keep the movements of back legs and bowl Going.

There is nothing rehab cannot do to help

Osteoarthritis can be helped with few tips:

Most animal owners don't realize the importance of maintaining a healthy weight for their dog and cat.
Overweight dogs develop a multitude of diseases. These include diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, respiratory disease, increased inflammation and osteoarthritis.

Make sure to exercise your dog regularly. Again, this helps maintain your dog's weight, but it also improves your dog's mental status, anxiety levels and overall calm.
Exercise will improve cardiovascular health and muscular health. It will also help with digestive issues, constipation, improved agility and will help maintain a healthy weight.

Buy a good, comfortable, supportive bed for your animal, Dogs lying on the floor are lying on their arms and legs. This constant pressure can damage their joints after long periods.

Help your dog maintain traction walking and living on its eviroment. Help it with rugs, ramps, and anything that can make its life easier.

Speak with your vet and physiotherapist to develop the best plan and care for your animal

Minor soft tissue injuries are likely one of the most common reason for lameness in dogs. Soft tissue injuries include injuries of the muscle-tendon unit (MTU). also termed strains, and ligament, also termed sprain. A common classification is in three categories, with first degree being a minor stretch with an intact architecture that does not result in instability and third degree being a complete disruption of the architecture. A systematic orthopedic exam should be performed to ensure evaluation of all bones, joints, and muscles, this to rule out joints problems too
First- and second-degree injuries are more difficult to diagnose and are usually treated conservatively with pain control, rest, cryotherapy, and compression (during the acute phase) and ideally physical therapy.
Physical therapy like mobilization and myofascial release is useful to ensure optimal healing once the acute swelling (inflammation) has resolved.

Hydrotherapy is another technique usefull to help the dog with controlled movements and use of more groups of muscles.
As you can see Soft tissues injuryes are very common, especially of very active young dog, Yuki worked hard at home and with us to heal quickly and go back to her normal life

Fibrocartilaginous Embolism (FCE), more commonly known as a canine spinal stroke occurs when there a blockage occurs in a blood vessel supplying the spinal cord. When this occurs, it can cause immediate paralysis to one or more of the dog’s legs, usually monolaterally.

Syntoms are:
* Sudden, severe pain that quickly disappears
* Signs of Weakness
* Paresis or plegia of hind limbs
* Wobbly Gait

Physical therapy is essential to help your dog improve their overall strength and coordination. With the help of a qualified physical therapist, your dog can work to regain range of motion and improve overall mobility. It’s important to know that the dog’s recovery will take time and constant work. They may never fully recover their mobility, but physical therapy will greatly improve their odds.
Common FCE therapies and exercises include:
• Hydrotherapy
• Stretching
• Acupuncture
• daily neuro stimulation Exercises

Myofascial Pain syndrome is often the reason why dogs, elderlies especially, start to slow down and change back position (arched back).

Myofascial release is a combination of manual techniques (hands, gua sha, and other tools can be used) that help improve the blood flow in the connective tissue and release trigger points or tensions that could cause trigger points.

In addiction Tens machine will help almplify the help you already gave to your patient with manual therapy.

Make sure your therapist is qualified in this addictional techniques too

Be a vet therapist takes commitment, time and a lot of passion but lets not forget the QUALIFICATION.
Studying is very important in our job and also hours of practice hands on, we will have to work on animals, treat their injuries and discomfort and we have to know where to put our hands.
That's why having a qualifications is very important.
Anathomy, physiology, behaviour, therapy tecniques are the basic and most important subjects and be qualified means you’ve studied postures, anatomic plans, chemical release reactions and pumps, exc.
Make sure, every time you choose a therapist to be referred to, that they have a degree, or a diploma in massages, hydrotherapy, myofascia, physiotherapy, osteopathy, exc. they can come from animal or human field, doesn’t matter, but they have to have a qualification.

Trust your therapist and help your dogs, they will thank you later

Our passion, our duty

Since we first met in the “regular” veterinary field, we shared our passion for animal rehabilitation and we promised to each other to build up something together one day. This is what we are doing now, after having specialised ourself and increased our skills and knowledge in animal rehabilitation. Together to share a passion with our patients but first of all to share love with our patients, as LOVE is the essential part of every therapy.
