Design for Social Sustainability sets out a framework for planning and designing the service, spaces, housing and governance arrangements to help local communities to thrive. It underpins all the work we do at Social Life. Foreword by Sir Peter Hall.

🌐 is largely neglected in mainstream debates. Priority has been given to economic and environmental sustainability in particular in the context of and , where and has focused on renewable resources, low carbon and encouraging pro-environmental household behaviours.

🛠 As a result, there are few practical resources that directly address the question of how to create places that are socially sustainable, as well as physical infrastructure that is environmentally sustainable. Past experience shows that the long-term social needs of new communities are often overlooked in the drive to deliver housing on a large scale. Without the right new communities can quickly spiral into decline.

Their prescribed therapy walks unexpectedly reconnects them with the motherland, however, with a digital conduit.

We've been asked by Southwark Council to do research across the borough to understand how people feel about their local areas, and what has been the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on our lives.

The research will focus on Camberwell, Elephant & Castle, Dulwich, Old Kent Road, Peckham and Walworth. It builds on work we have done in the north of the borough, in Bermondsey and Rotherhithe, and on the Aylesbury Estate.
