At the start of this year, we spent some days exploring Hokkaido – Japan’s northernmost island, renowned for its backcountry skiing and snowboarding. 🌲
Due to its unique geography, the island receives on average 10-15 meters of snow every year, thus attracting a crowd of snowsports devotees who make the trek across the world to experience it (us too).
After days spent riding, skiers and snowboarders decompress at local izakaya and tiny cocktail bars, listening to records or exchanging the day’s best moments - a cozier version of the European après-ski culture.
A personal favourite Japanese “après” drink was the honey lemon highball (a whisky cocktail):
• 1-2 shots of Whisky
• 1 tbsp honey
• 1-2 tbs fresh lemon juice
• ginger ale
Cheers to Japan, and its welcoming local snowboarding community for having us.🏂🌲
