Damaged cells that don’t function properly… but don’t die either. They’re called senescent cells.

Instead, they sit in your skin and continuously send out stress signals, triggering inflammation and accelerating ageing. This process is often called inflammageing.

And one of the key drivers?
DNA damage.

So what can you do?
Daily sun protection is essential, and supporting the skin’s natural DNA repair processes may help limit how this damage accumulates over time.

May marks the start of Skin Cancer Awareness Month , a timely reminder that protecting your skin starts with awareness.

The biggest risk factor for skin cancer is exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light, whether from the sun or indoor tanning devices like sunbeds.
The good news? When caught early, skin cancers have very high cure rates knowing what to look for matters.

While melanoma is the most serious form, it’s important to remember that other skin cancers, such as basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma, are far more common , making regular skin checks essential for everyone.

The ABCDE rule is a simple yet powerful guide for spotting early signs of melanoma:
• A – Asymmetry
• B – Border irregularity
• C – Colour variation
• D – Diameter (pay attention to any changes, no matter the size)
• E – Evolving in shape, size, or colour

If you notice anything new, changing, or unusual, don’t wait , book a skin check with a dermatologist, and as always, wear sunscreen.

Better skin doesn’t come from more steps. It comes from the right ones.

Protect by day. Repair by night.

Two steps. Real results.

Every day, UV exposure creates DNA damage in your skin.

Over time, this damage accumulates, contributing to ageing, pigmentation, inflammation, and more. In fact, up to 80–90% of visible skin ageing is linked to this process.

So what can you do?

Protect your skin early and consistently and consider incorporating ingredients, like DNA Repair Enzymes that support the skin’s natural repair processes.

Night-time repair only works if you’re not accelerating photoageing in the day. SPF + night repair = the ideal formula

Every single cell in your body is guided by DNA.
It tells your cells what to do, how to function, and how to repair.

As Dan Yarosh explains, DNA isn’t just biology, it’s the instruction manual for everything happening in your skin.

Which is why protecting it… matters more than most people realise.

“They found sunscreen chemicals in the blood.”

And that’s where a lot of the fear started. But here’s the part that often gets missed: Detection does not equal harm.

These studies looked at exaggerated, high-use scenarios and while ingredients were detected, regulators were clear:
-This was not cause for concern
- It did not indicate risk or toxicity

In toxicology, as Rani explains, presence alone doesn’t determine danger it’s about dose, exposure, and effect.

Understanding that distinction is key to cutting through a lot of the noise.
