Vision Care

Vision Care Free eyecare services for people affected by homelessness in the UK.

Vision Care for Homeless People (VCHP) provides free eye care services for people who are homeless or vulnerably housed in an accessible, friendly environment where they feel safe and welcome. Our mission is to preserve and protect the vision of homeless and vulnerable people in the UK who are unwilling or unable to access treatment through high street opticians. Our patients are particularly disadvantaged when it comes to obtaining eye care. They also suffer a higher level of eye problems than the general population. People need glasses to look for work, find accommodation or simply to keep themselves safe. To reach our patients we base our clinics in homeless centres and provide our eyecare services for free at the point of access. Through our existing clinics we reach around 8% of homeless people across England and aim to reach 40% in the future. CHARITY NUMBER:

❄️ WHY YOU SHOULD DONATE TO OUR CHRISTMAS APPEAL ❄️
Hearing from our volunteers is always inspiring - as they see first-hand how something as simple as an eye exam or a pair of glasses can change lives by opening doors β€” to opportunity, connection, confidence, and safety.

Our Plymouth team were buzzing on Thursday - πŸ“ˆ 6 TESTED βœ…οΈ 6 DISPENSED πŸ› 1 COLLECTION πŸ’» 1 REORDER πŸͺ› 1 REPAIR .. but more importantly they were buzzing from seeing how our eyecare service is a stepping stone for people in prioritising themselves and their health:
🫢 A rough sleeper living in a tent who had lost his glasses and was missing the pleasure reading gives them
🫢 A patient who had used our service last year - and came by because their glasses had been stolen - they were delighted we could help again and told the volunteers how they'll be marking a year of sobriety in January and was about to sign up to a course on understanding trauma.
🫢 A patient who was struggling from eye strain from wearing ready readers - and needed some distance glasses - plus eyedrops to help with dry eye.

❄️ Your donation to our Christmas appeal will help our volunteers change lives for more patients in the year ahead. πŸ‘οΈ

A great night had by all at The Exeter Inn in Chittlehamholt, in Devon last night - packed with people enjoying the Christmas quiz. Steve and Hazel have been hosting monthly charity quizzes for a number of years in support of local charities - and this year Vision Care is one of the 2 charities they are supporting. Over Β£500 was raised from the quiz last night - from entrance fees and the raffle - lots of Christmas jumpers on show - and extra points given by the quiz master ' Grinch' to those who looked the most festive. Thank you everyone!! With your help more people affected by homelessness will be able to receive free eyecare through our clinics in Exeter and Plymouth! πŸŽ„β›„πŸŽ…πŸ»πŸŽ The Exeter Inn

πŸŽ„ We launched our Christmas Appeal today - on , the global day of giving. For people experiencing homelessness, poor vision isn’t just an inconvenience - it can be the barrier that keeps them from employment, safety and independence. Many live with preventable vision loss simply because they cannot access basic care.
Please donate to our Christmas Appeal and help provide life changing eye care to those in need ➑️ https://visioncareforhomelesspeople.enthuse.com/cf/vision-care-s-christmas-appeal

- Thank you Optimum RX Lens Specialists for kicking off the appeal with your donation to help change lives. 🫢 The company also support our work throughout the year as one of our clinic glazing partners, so know very well how something as simple as an eye exam or a pair of glasses can open doorsβ€”to opportunity, connection, confidence, and safety. ❀️ πŸ‘“
