Valentine’s Day can be full of love & companionship, but it can also bring up challenging emotions around lack, loss & unfulfilled hopes/expectations.

Given that we believe true love starts from within, we return to the heart of the practice: Ahimsa - non-violence in thought, word & action 💚

“If you truly loved yourself, you could never hurt another” - Lord Buddha

When we meet ourselves with compassion, patience, & kindness, that love naturally ripples through us - spilling out and nourishing our relationships, our communities & ourselves

If you are struggling today - and for many of us, truly feeling love towards ourselves can be uncomfortable or an alien feeling - treat yourself as you would a pet or animal in your care! Do even just one thing to show yourself some love, such as taking yourself for a walk, getting a little treat, words of affirmation, or getting cosy in your favourite spot…

Have you tried Yoga Nidra?🌛

I recently had the pleasure of introducing the Oakhill Vet teams to Yoga Nidra - otherwise known as the yogic sleep - for the first time, with a great turnout!

Nobody present had tried Yoga Nidra before, so it is always an honour to introduce veterinary colleagues to new wellbeing practices, and this one is particularly good for those:

⏰ Working shifts and switching between day & night sleep schedules
🫩 Experiencing fatigue or tiredness even after several hours of sleep
🧠 Feeling a disconnect between the mind & body
⛔️ Overwhelmed by stress and/or concerned about burnout

This deeply restorative practice acts directly on our brainwaves, transitioning us into calmer states. It’s extremely impactful, with 1 hour of Yoga Nidra having been demonstrated to be as restful as 4 hours of non-REM sleep! 💤

To learn more about Yoga Nidra, and especially how veterinary professionals can utilise it, check out the article I wrote for .australia & .newzealand last year: https://partners-in-practice-au.partica.online/editions/partners-in-practice-october-2025/flipbook/14/

Having worked night shifts this past weekend, Yoga Nidra is my go-to practice before going back on shift, especially if I haven’t slept particularly well during the day.

What is your experience of Yoga Nidra? If you want to try it we have several classes available on the VetYogi Collective: https://collective.vetyogi.com

“You’re only as young as your spine is strong and supple”

If you work in veterinary, that is likely to hit home for you! 😫

Neck pain. Upper back tension. Lower back twinges that take away your invincibility. Touching your toes while bending a distant memory. Back pain & injuries are way too common in the veterinary field, but it doesn’t have to be YOUR normal…

We’re here to help, with 3 easy, beginner-friendly yoga poses you can do:
🩺 In-between consults & before starting surgery
🦷 After being hunched over that immovable dental table
🐾 To bring relief from contorting yourself holding patients
☎️ If sitting at a desk all day is taking its toll

As we look back on the year, let’s embrace the gentle power of Ahimsa: the practice of non-violence and compassion.

Every joy, every heartbreak, every triumph, every struggle we’ve felt this year connects us to the shared experience of being human. Life certainly isn’t all sunshine & rainbows, but if we can meet it where we’re at with understanding for ourselves & others, it can help weather the storms 🌦️

May we aim to embrace this empathy into the year ahead: being kinder to ourselves & those we meet in day to day life. Ahimsa encourages us to see every moment of feeling as an invitation to grow in love and compassion - remember it is a practice, and doesn’t have to be perfect for progress 💚

To learn more about how applying the yogic principle of ahimsa can help us in veterinary practice, check out our blog on VetYogi.com

The festive season can be magical, but it can also feel overwhelming. Amidst the rush of celebrations, shopping, and social obligations, it’s easy to lose ourselves in the chaos…

It can also be a time where our negative inner voice wants to take centre stage, perhaps chastising ourselves for not getting it “right”, or feeling shame or sadness that our experiences don’t seem to match the constant comparisons we see in the media or around us.

It’s often a time where we’re more in our heads than in our bodies, but by grounding ourselves in the present moment, we can pause, breathe, and gain clarity on what truly matters at this time of year 🕊️

Discover how embracing the now can transform your festive season into one of contentment and inner calm, with our blog - The Power of the Present Moment: Ancient Wisdom for a Healthier, Happier You - https://www.vetyogi.com/blog-details/the-power-of-the-present-moment-ancient-wisdom-for-a-healthier-happier-you

Merry Christmas to you all 🎄

Full disclaimer - this pic is from a few years ago…

Honestly, I wasn’t too keen on it at the time as I wasn’t feeling my best, so I didn’t end up posting it. It’s funny how perceptions change, as now when I look at it I love just seeing my old soul boy Struie lit up like the angel he was 🐾 So thankful to for persevering with me that day and taking the photo, and for sharing Struie with me all those years 🥰

I could have forced myself to do a Christmas pic from this year, but frankly I am tired and I don’t want to 😂 It’s ok to release ourselves from the pressures of obligation for the things that don’t actually really matter, right?

I do, however, want to focus on the things that do matter, and share my gratitude for all of you! Thank you so much to everyone who has supported VetYogi over the past year & beyond, and to our wonderful team of VYC yoga teachers & helpers 💚

Wishing you all a restful & restorative festive season, and thinking of those who may not find this an easeful time of year 🕊️
