These are ALWAYS the first five things I pack in my drop bag…. ‘Drop bag’ the bag full of your stuff that you give to the lovely person at the start of the marathon and then you collect it when you have your medal.

Five
Sliders / crocs / flip flops
Your feet are going to feel like crap and will need to be free from trainers, let them breath

Four
Clean socks. Your feet will thank you for it

Three
Wet wipes. You’re going to be rank. Sweaty, gunky (from gels), dirt, and general icky from running a marathon. You’ll feel soooo good once you do.

Two
Moisturiser. Obvs, once you’ve wiped down, you’ll need to moisturise. You will look like a gorgeous marathon runner

One
DRINK!
Whatever your favourite drink is, yes, we know it will be warm, but who gives a crap, you’ve just run a bloody marathon.
When you sit on the end elf the curb with your sprite / beer / wine and your medal, you’re going to feel so proud.

What else would you add?

Hey hey Rockstars

Are you ready for a series of marathon tips? I mean, you’re getting them anyway, lean into it.

✳️ Start slow, embrace your Zen. You are a Jedi. You have control (because you are clever and saw this message) Start slow, nope slower than that. Let people pass you in the first 10 miles / 16km.

✳️ Mentally 20 miles / 32km is the halfway point. This is where your marathon really starts Bebe! Dig deep

✳️ Smile at the distance markers, regardless of how you’re. Feeling. Smile and feel proud. Look at the journey you’re on. Look how far you’ve come. Look at you running a marathon!!

Stay tuned Bebe, there’s more of thee to come…

You will only ever get to run your first marathon ONCE!

You will never again get to experience that.

Why rush it? Who care how long it takes?

Instead of rushing to the finish line, why not…..

Take photos at every mile / km marker

Take allllll the selfies

Take photos of landmarks

Take photos of funny signs from the supporters

High five the kids

Talk to other runners and share your experience…..make new friends.

When you see your friends and family stop and take photos.

Four years ago today I completed a 100 miler.

One thing learned and have to continually remind myself is :

I bloody can.

I’m not sharing this as a humble brag, but a reminder to….well all of us that really that ‘We bloody can’.

That little voice in your head is a massive LIAR, lets give it a that voice a name, I’m going to call mine Nigel, When Nigel tells me “Yeah, this is not for you” I am going to remind him to Shut. His Mouth. Because I Bloody Can

Now, what are you going to name your voice?

But seriously, why are you waiting?

Whatever it is, if someone else has done it before you, learn from their mistakes and then go out there and give the world YOU!

Solo is fun….

Being invited to do comp with a partner is bloody good fun! (Even if it was Monday night)

The same weights I did on my own 10 days ago, but this time sharing the load with El Heffe.

As it was my 13th Hyrox and his first I thought it only fair to let Jeff get the full Hyrox experience and so I graciously let him do 65% of the work at each station.

I did an excellent job of cheering him on.

Finishing with a 2nd in our age group, was nice, the badge we got for finishing, was lovely, a winners flag would have topped it all off nicely.

Thanks to and it really was something special.

Can we have another one in November please?

Granted this is a step away from fitness. But it’s also a funny as this is my ENTIRE collection of photos from the 90’s. I didn’t get to choose my faves, it was this or nothing. And most of them are phots of photos taken when I was last in NZ (confused yet?) and I raised Sue’s photos

On paper I think I am meant to be upset…..
. but yeah, nah, I got a PW - Personal Worse, and all I have is bastard DOMS.

Read more if you want to recreate this a experience

🍉Yeah, I ran an extra lap, I was necking a gel as I ran past the screen and only realised at the last minute, I then had 25 metres to decide whether I risk a penalty by not running enough laps, or add 90 seconds on to my time by running an extra lap.

🍉 Falling over… yeah, three times, in the same spot on the course, there was nothing on the floor and each time it happened on the first lap out of the Roxzone. I was shooketh I tell you.

🍉 Do the stations in the wrong order, I was halfway down the first stretch of lunges when Aileen shouts over to me “You know you’re meant o be on the Farmer, right?” Yes, this was my 12th Hyrox.

🍉 Pukefest. Yeah, this was just my achalasia, never happened during Hyrox, yes in marathons, not in a Hyrox before, so that was new.

BONUS - walk in all of your runs and ignore the voice in your head that says “F**king MOVE”

Anyway, last ever Hyrox Solo Pro done and dusted, and I am happy as a happy thing.

Next up Brighton Marathon…..

Representation is everything if you see it you can do it.

Know that your training only stops when you decided it stops. Not when you turn 40 or 50 or 60 or 70 or…or…or…. So buckle up and buy that new kit you’re going to need it 😂😂

Of course you can train for your marathon on a treadmill.

But if you can get outside… get outside. That said, life doesn’t always play ball.

📍 LocationI’ve got a client right now living somewhere covered in snow and ice. Running outside? Not happening. So we adapt. The gym becomes the training ground. No drama. No excuses. Just smart adjustments.

📍 SituationI once coached a parent of young kids who knocked out their long runs at 4am. Out the door before the house woke up at 7. Was it glamorous? No. Was it effective? Absolutely. You don’t need perfect conditions. You need commitment.

📍 DistractionsSome of you know you’re easily distracted outside. Traffic lights. Phone. That “I’ll just stop here” moment.
Treadmill can actually sharpen you up. Lock in with an audiobook. A proper podcast series. Head down. Work done.

If you are on the treadmill, set it to 1–1.5% incline. It offsets the lack of wind resistance and keeps things honest.

Training for a marathon on a treadmill builds serious mental resilience.
