We are pleased to announce the launch of our ADHD assessment clinic for under 18's. Led by our neurodevelopmental specialists we conduct assessments based on the NICE guidelines.

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD/ADD) is a condition that affects people's behaviour. Symptoms usually present as difficulty paying attention, remaining focused, staying still and acting on impulse. ADHD symptoms can have a significant impact on educational attainment, social situations and emotional wellbeing.

An assessment will help determine areas of difficulty and help put in place support, adaptations and strategies where appropriate.

One of our Psychologist Dr Sarah Rudebeck spoke about the power of storytelling for children who have experienced brain injury at a recent Stroke Association Parents Day. See Sarah talk covered in the below blog.

So what's a Neuropsychology assessment?

It investigates a person's cognitive abilities that impact their learning, academic and daily living skills. Cognitive functions include: intellect, short and long-term memory, attention, executive function, processing speed and visuospatial skills. Everyone has different strengths and weaknesses which the assessment explores so that strategies and support can be put in place to help.

Assessments can diagnose:
Giftedness
Dyslexia
Dyscalculia
Attention difficulties
Memory problems
General learning difficulties
Handwriting speed

Young people who are experiencing a health issue that may affect their brain function highly benefit from assessment.

What happens as part of the assessment?

1. Clinical interview with child and parent/guardian - understanding main strengths and weaknesses.
2. Psychometric assessment with the child - games and puzzles on iPad and paper and pen.
3. Neuropsychology report is written - this outlines the findings of the assessment and makes tailored recommendations for school and home.
4. Feedback session - to discuss the report and its main findings and recommendations.
