What a dynamic looking Pro-Ject turntable.
Design seems based on the traditional Rega approach but with an inbuilt electronic speed control. Just serviced it and it is running nicely now, just awaiting a replacement anti-skate thread & weight. Looking forward to hearing it!

The long nights are surely a time for appreciating music and winter solstice a time to prompt renewal. Having fitted a new cartridge it must surely be time to change the silicone damping fluid in my tonearm's trough! 😁

I'm shocked how good this wonderful wind up 78 playing gramophone from about 1928 sounds. I've just serviced it, dismantlling the motor, cleaning and relubricating it. Fortunately the Spring was not broken.

So happy to be able to repair these vintage AR18 speakers for a friend. Perhaps due to the benefits of their infinite baffle design they have a bit of a following. I'm currently testing them, they have a lovely midrange and good sense of rhythm. Should be good for another 10 years+ .

Another wonderful Dig A Little yesterday, thanks to Dan, Rob and everyone else who makes it so special.

Several people mentioned that they were considering investing in a turntable. I have a few available from £25 to £225.

They are all tested and all working apart from the beautiful Strathearn, which a friend has asked me to sell and which I hope to wire and test in the next few days.

Here's a selection with some photos below:
Hitachi HT324 MkII - belt drive semi automatic made in Japan, with stylus, some cracks in lid but working well £45;
A very clean JVC F LX22 made in Japan, fully automatic direct drive in excellent working order £40 (it is the one with the strobe light to ensure correct speed);
A Rega 3 made in Southend in excellent order and great condition £225 - pictures of this are elsewhere on this page.

The Strathearn is the one with the red and black mat (made in N Ireland) but not yet tested or priced. If interested in any of these or maybe something different please message me.

Yet to hear a turntable this side of £1k that digs better bass :-)

Lovely to chat with so many music lovers today at Dig A Little record fair in Forest Gate's Forest Tavern . Good to hear that more and more people are realising there's so much more in those grooves to be heard.

Another pair of lovely Technics SL1210s sorted and ready for play :-)

These machines have long set the standard for DJ use and are no longer made. So if you have a pair you might want to help them have a productive long life by having them checked and serviced every couple of years.

Though they are durable workhorses the arms are vulnerable to bearing damage and the deck's main bearing, motor and circuits can be stressed if neglected.

Assuming no replacement parts are needed a service usually costs between £15 and £30 per deck depending on what is needed, add £5 to that if you want the decks cleaning too!

It usually works out much more expensive to not service them :-(

To mark Record Store Day tomorrow I am offering a vintage Japanese made functional record deck for just £15 to the first person to make contact who doesn't already have a record deck. If this is no use to you maybe share if any of your friends might want one :-)
