We are delighted to launch our new series: Delivering Impact.

Local authorities across the UK will share success stories of how they are leading positive change in health and social care.

Our first guest is 2024 LGC Award finalist, Dundee City Council! We explore Dundee's transformational change strategy with Glyn Lloyd, Yvonne Beattie, and Neil Wallace, and how they were able to achieve positive outcomes for their community.

We discuss...

✨ The strategy built upon five foundations: Voice, Family, Care, People, and Scaffolding.
✨ Positive outcomes achieved from implementing change.
✨ Challenges they faced during their transformative journey.

Our dear colleague and friend, Lynn, was an integral part of the nGAGE family for over 20 years, bringing her kindness, dedication, and warm spirit into everything she did.

In honour of Lynn’s memory, we are supporting Shelter, a cause that was close to her heart. We invite those who wish to join us in celebrating Lynn’s legacy by contributing to Shelter via JustGiving.

We hope to make a meaningful impact in Lynn’s name and continue her legacy of caring for others.

It has been an absolute pleasure working with Blackpool Council on a bespoke programme to complete 600 reviews to assist Blackpool Adult Social Care in reducing risk to those with overdue reviews.

Liz Russell & Gill Nixon-Smith, Head of Adult Social Care at Blackpool Council, shared:

"We have found the Attenti team to be very professional and organised in the project planning and ongoing monitoring of the reviews. The communication with Shyam and other team members has been fantastic. Shyam has produced weekly updates for us to help us understand both the trajectory and any increases or decreases to packages which has been very helpful in assuring we are on track...
..All the reviews have been quality checked before sending to Blackpool Heads of Service for sign off authorisation and on the whole, the quality of the recording has been of a very high standard. Any issues we identified were picked up and resolved very quickly.

We would be happy to work with Attenti again if the opportunity and funding arose in the future and would recommend them to other Councils."

Thank you to the Blackpool Adult Social Care team for the kind words and collaborative partnership.

With the release of the UK Budget for 2024/25, we are looking forward to seeing how these reforms will impact the industry and make way for positive change.

Here are a few of the notable points that will affect social care.

✔️ Local government spending power will rise by around 3.2% with £1.3 billion in new grant funding, including at least £600 million for social care.
✔️ £86 million increase in the Disabled Facilities Grant to support 7,800 home adaptations to reduce hospitalisations and maximise independence.
✔️ From April 2025, the Carer’s Allowance weekly earnings limit will increase from £151 a week to the equivalent of 16 hours at the National Living Wage.
✔️ A £1 billion uplift for Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and alternative provision, aiming for sustainability and improved outcomes.
✔️ £44 million in new funding to pilot a Kinship Allowance and create more foster placements, allowing children to remain in family environments. This will pave the way for deeper reforms in children’s social care (Phase 2), with a focus on early intervention and keeping children with families.

Is there anything we missed?

At Attenti, we are always exploring opportunities to utilise technology to improve care services. We are excited to see local authorities are doing the same with AI.

But even though AI has exciting potential to streamline administrative tasks in social work, regulation is crucial.

https://buff.ly/3NoiiJf

As highlighted in the recent Community Care article, tools like Magic Notes and Microsoft’s Copilot are being tested in UK councils to reduce time spent on case notes. However, concerns around data privacy, bias, and ethical implications remain.

Sector bodies, including BASW and the Social Workers Union, call for a regulatory framework to protect both practitioners and the vulnerable individuals they support.

Striking a balance between innovation and safeguarding human rights is key.

Investing in prevention is the way forward for Health and Social Care.

We're encouraged by recent discussions from health ministers pushing for increased Treasury funding for prevention projects, which aligns with our focus at Attenti in assisting local authorities with building an informed and sustainable prevention strategy.

https://buff.ly/3ZSW6yr

Investing in early intervention not only alleviates pressure on social care services but also fosters healthier, more resilient communities by identifying those who would benefit from early support.

We believe in a proactive, person-centered approach that will prevent the rise of complex cases by addressing issues before they arise.
