Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust

Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust Our mission is to be world class in terms of our healthcare services, clincial research and teaching excellence.

The Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust runs three hospitals in London:

• Barnet Hospital
• Chase Farm Hospital
• Royal Free Hospital

In the 21st century we continue to lead improvements in healthcare, from targeted cancer therapies to new kinds of surgery. We offer an exceptionally wide range of local and specialist services, including cancer, plastic surgery, vascular surgery, blood disorders and infectious diseases and are proud to have some of the best clinical outcomes in the country. In addition to our three main sites, the trust includes a network of clinics provided at other trusts’ hospitals and community sites. Our local catchment area comprises most of the areas covered by Barnet, Camden, Islington and Haringey primary care trusts (PCTs) together with west Enfield and east Brent. Our aim is to be in the top 10% of English hospitals for clinical quality, customer satisfaction, staff satisfaction and financial performance. We want to give patients the best possible care in a safe, clean and welcoming environment.

Remembrance Day

Today we pause to remember those who have served, those who gave their lives in service, and those who continue to serve today.

At 11am, colleagues across our hospitals will join together in a two-minute silence led by our chaplaincy and spiritual care team — a moment of reflection and gratitude for the courage and sacrifice of our armed forces.

We’re proud to recognise members of our armed forces community — regulars, reservists, Cadet Force Adult Volunteers and veterans — for their continued service and dedication.

09/11/2025

Please join us in commemorating Remembrance Sunday today.

We would like to take a moment to recognise the contribution of the armed forces and thank them for their service while remembering those lost.

Lest we forget. Never forgotten, always remembered.

A fire in the kitchen of the restaurant at Barnet Hospital has now been extinguished and the incident stood down. Everyone is safe and well, and all patient care has continued as normal. The restaurant remains closed for the time being.

We would like to thank the Barnet Hospital estates and facilities team and London Fire Brigade for their swift response.

With four arms, two operating consoles and 720 degrees of rotation, a new da Vinci Xi surgical robot has joined the Royal Free Hospital cancer surgery team. 💙

This cutting-edge addition is already helping our surgeons perform complex pancreas, liver and bowel operations so patients can recover faster — with less pain, reduced scarring and fewer complications.

Funded entirely by the generosity of the public and charitable foundations, the robot joins the NHS trust following a major fundraising appeal by the Royal Free Charity.

Having raised £1.7million so far, they are now £300,000 from reaching their £2million target. The charity is grateful to the robot's manufacturer, Intuitive, for installing the robot while the campaign is still on-going, enabling medics to help more patients.

For patient Raymond Coulter, the impact has been life-changing: “I’m feeling absolutely brilliant – people look at me and say they just can’t believe I’ve had major surgery.”

Royal Free London’s group chief executive visits urology team to see aquablation in action

Our group chief executive, Peter Landstrom, recently joined Leye Ajayi, consultant urological surgeon, and our urology colleagues in theatres to watch an aquablation therapy case – a pioneering, minimally invasive waterjet treatment for an enlarged prostate.

The Royal Free London is one of only two trusts in central London offering aquablation on the NHS.

Our governors recently had the chance to go behind the scenes of our red cell service at North Middlesex University Hospital — one of the largest in the UK.

The team provides expert, compassionate care for people with sickle cell disease and thalassaemia — from early screening during pregnancy, to emergency support and long-term treatment.

Governors learned about:

✅ How early screening helps families understand their baby’s health
✅The emergency department bypass system — allowing patients to access red cell specialists quickly
✅A brand new 24-hour care model, ensuring patients get the right care, in the right place, at the right time

They also toured our haematology day clinic, which supports over 1,000 patients every year.

A huge thank you to our dedicated red cell team for hosting the visit and all that you do.
