96 Club

96 Club Established in 1976 to create exclusive & prestigious motoring events for car enthusiasts & organise The Headquarters was in the K.L.G.

In its formative years the 96 Club arranged a number of private meetings at a selection of Race Circuits around the UK – such as Silverstone, Donnington, Brands Hatch, Mallory Park, Castle Combe and Goodwood. The days were informal social occasions with the emphasis on the sheer enjoyment of man and machine: no racing was allowed and each of the circuits’ safety requirements were scrupulously followed

Professional instructors were present to teach both the novice and experienced driver. All new members had to have at least one session on the track with an instructor for their own safety and that of the others. Apart from the opportunity to drive fast in safe conditions, members were also able to take advantage many Special Events such as Hospitality Suites at Brands Hatch and Silverstone and specially organised trips to Le Mans, the British Grand Prix, etc. Membership was totally at the discretion of the Club’s management and depended almost as much on the car as on the person. The list of members was always confidential and never published. In 1985 the 96 Club amalgamated with” Le Club des Soixante-douze Heures”. This Club was solely formed for the enjoyment of ‘le 24 Heures du Mans’. Pit at the Le Mans Circuit and a condition of being elected a member was that you had to be willing to help before, during and after ‘The Race’ – such as bar duties, score board, sweeping out, cooking, setting up and dismantling the pit and any other job requested by the President, Monsieur Herve Coatalen, or his wife. A member also had to have at least one K.L.G. ‘bougie’ actually in use in the engine of his motor car – or - they had to immediately forfeit one bottle of Champagne to be drunk by all members present. Many of the British racing drivers of this époque were members of this extremely exclusive club. There have been many imitators of Michael Scott’s brilliant idea, but the 96 Club was the first and remained the leading club for owners of high performance cars, modern or classic until the late 90s. At present, the 96 Club is concentrating on holding entirely informal monthly gatherings, usually at the Royal Hospital Chelsea, and always to help raise funds for the Chelsea Pensioners. The 96 Club is also organising Classic Car Displays and events at various locations in and around London, including the London Concours at the exclusive Hurlingham Club, the Silverstone Classic Car Event and at Wilton House Classic Rendezvous & Supercars event and the Bahama’s Speed Week at the end of the year.

What a special occasion it was to see this immaculate Maserati 250 F brought along by Walter Heale to the meet.

This particular car 'CM5' is the second series of chassis identical in their dimensions to the originals fitted with largely original 250F parts.

Being the fifth made of only 12 cars produced by Cameron Millar it's as close as you can get to the iconic post-war racing car.

Have a gander at this Rolls Royce Phantom II Continental Sports Saloon. Owned by one of our club members and displayed at recently.

One of only 280 Continentals made and the only one finished in this unique specification. It's certainly a show stopper!

2023 was once again a spectacle like no other with plenty of incredible machines. This year round we had the privelidge of hosting a display of 96 member cars at the front of the palace. (Photos to come soon)

Our club founder Scottie proudly brought along his 1933 Lancia Astura Steady Special to be judged in the Concours.

We've had a brilliant time being part of this event and we hope everyone who came caught a glimpse of our collection.

When a genuine and newly restored Porsche 356 Speedster turns up to the rendezvous, you know you are in for a special day. Finished in Aquamarine blue with a tan leather interior (and engine bay) It certainly drew plenty of well deserved attention.

But having an array of colourful classics alongside vintage Rolls Royce's made for another fabulous meet. And for the keen eyed amongst you, we even displayed the Rolls Royce Wraith that appeared in the 2017 film: The Hitman's Bodyguard.

Summer has finally arrived at the club and what better way to enjoy the weather than to bring together a diverse mix of cars into the heart of London. The smell of petrol and the sound of engines as members' classics filled the garden made for one wonderful meet.

Concours of Elegance last year was a spectacle full of automotive splendour. The Hispano Suiza Dubonnet 'Xenia' took centre stage alongside other rarities such as the Countach Periscopio and the one of one Aston Martin DB5 V8. Who is excited for this year?

One of only 599 made for the entire world. This GTO owned by club member has been finished in Rosso Corsa over a black alcantara and carbon fibre interior. Powered by a naturally aspirtated 661 hp V12 she certainly sings when put through her paces. It was a pleasure to be taken out in it over summer into the Mews of Belgravia.

Taking a look back over the year, we've had some wonderful events and hosted a great array of rare and special machines. This is but a mere selection that I have chosen to showcase the incredible variety of cars. (Including two professional photoshoots)

And as 2022 comes to a close, we can now begin to look forwards into an even more exciting year ahead.

So, a very Happy New Year to all from The 96 Club!
