Run With Ease with Kevin Chamberlain

Run With Ease with Kevin Chamberlain I encourage clients to find a holistic practice that combines running with movement and breath work. Oxygen Advtange instructor.

I started running when a friend challenged me to train and run the 2007 London marathon. This initially amused most of my friends. Whilst my first efforts were not a pretty site, it kickstarted an interest in managing my health, fitness, and wellbeing. I had discovered how to get an amazing sense of freedom and self-worth. I continued to run a marathon each year and with each year came a new injury that I would need to research and resolve. I then attended a Chi Running courses with Gray Caws in 2011 which dramatically improved my running efficiency and stopped the injuries. I went on to train as a Chi Running Instructor and an Oxygen Advantage Instructor to further my knowledge and to help others. Seeing each run as part of a breath and movement practice was a revelation. I find running, qigong, breathwork and yoga have a positive impact on my personal and working life. I aim is to help people find a running practice that will give them many years of joy. I currently run a regular running club in London and work with smaller groups and individuals. Services:
Online coaching
In person running and breath coaching
Small groups
Regular running clubs for a variety of levels across London

Brighton marathon - Done
26.2 miles
4hrs 03mins
Pace: 9:14 / mile

What a day! A very warm day for a marathon. Lots of people missing out on their intended times due to the heat. I was aiming for around for 4hrs 30 but started to get a sniff of 4hrs so kept the pace. I sped up a bit and kept pace with Alex, who kindly passed me some salt tablets as we progressed
Breath and posture saved me at about 22 but nothing helped at 25 so had a little walk and then sprinted over the line. Done.

Remembering to do my Brighton marathon training but failing to actually book my place has led me to buy a charity place with Parkinson’s UK. I’m very pleased as it gives me an opportunity to help an amazing charity. If anyone would like to sponsor me then there is a link here. Most appreciated!

My Dad had Parkinson’s and so I saw what a difference good support makes.

They don’t wait for change, we make it happen. Campaigning for better health and care. Funding research into groundbreaking new treatments. Running life-changing support services.
They’re a powerful community united by one mission: improving life.

I am running the Brighton Marathon on April 6th. Parkinson’s UK support every Parkinson’s journey, every step of the way. They don’t wait for change, they make it happen. Campaigning for better health

Brighton Marathon – 2 Weeks to Go!

Last weeks Saturday Long Run: 20 miles | Pace: 9:20/mile
This weeks Saturday long run: 15 miles 9:31/ mile

Last week’s run run pretty good considering it was 20 miles. Even though the toilet in Islington were closed at 5 miles! 20 miles is the maximum I have ran preparing for a marathon. It felt good and great to have made it this far without any injuries.
This weeks Saturday long I ran 15 miles with no gels to see try and recreate the experience of the wall. It worked. Struggled around 13 miles.

Key Focus for the Final Weeks
* Breathwork drills – increasing pace on 5 miles whilst nasal breathing
* Form & efficiency – Staying relaxed and keeping form when fatigue sets in
* Some speed and hill work.
* Functional movement and yoga
* Plus a few faster 5 milers

Time for a Garmin upgrade!

I treated myself to a Garmin 255. I have no need for too much tech when I run. I run to get away from my computer. However, the old 35 was starting to deny that I had a heartbeat and getting a bit inaccurate with the distance, often thinking I had ran across the Thames and back or ran through walls. Perhaps it thought I am Mr Claypole in Rentaghost!

My requirements were simple:
No touchscreen and Accurate GPS!

Very happy with it so far though it’s cheekily predicting me a 5hr Brighton Marathon time.

Marathon 4 weeks to go - a medium sized panic!

Just before I booked a hotel near Brighton I checked my Brighton marathon booking. “Just checking .. I have clear memory of booking it but just worth checking”. “Maybe the booking is in junk the folder…..”. “Found the WhatsApp messages….telling Alex and Becci that I am all booked in….what the f@@@ - No booking!!!” I must have done my usual and thought of something else before I hit Confirm. Thanks to Becci, 20 minutes later I was signed up to run Brighton with Parkinson’s UK. Phew.

Another lovely long run this weekend. Started at Old Street, Through Bunhill cemetery (a quick nod to William Blake), past St Paul’s, wobbly bridge, borough market, tower bridge, Wapping, Limehouse, regents canals, Islington, King’s Cross, Camden, past the Marathon kebab shop where Graeme Coates and I arguably started our first marathon journey over a can of Stella , past the stretch of road in Chalk Farm that I started marathon training and collapsed after about 100m, Belsize Park Highgate cemetery and home!

Looking forward to seeing Gray Caws for Oxygen Advantage Instructor training on 21 March!

Marathon - 5 weeks to go

Tackling Tight Hips, Back Pain & Knee Strain during the week. Focussing on nasal breathing and alignment for a Sunday run in the sun

A beautiful Sunday morning run from Tower Hill along the Thames path. A quick check on the foreshore for treasure then though Limehouse, up regents canal, through Islington then towards home.

Slightly slower than last week though I am now starting to focus on bringing nasal breathing into the Sunday runs more. Found that flow at about 5 miles onwards.
Much more energy after the run this week thanks to the more efficient breathing

Distance: 13.1 miles Pace: 9:40

6 Weeks to Brighton Marathon – Finding the Anger Again

I’ve been worried about my pace, but today, I got some of it back.

Drum and bass has been my 2025 music of choice. It keeps my cadence steady at about 170-180. I have just been struggling with pace. This week I needed an extra push, I switched to Metallica for the second half of the run. There’s something about Hetfield and the boys that taps into the —running anger.

After reading Paul Tonkinsons marathon book, it’s become a mythical beast—something to be tackled, battled, and conquered.

Key Focus Points This Week

Hip flexors are tight – Need to loosen them up to avoid back pain.

Metallica songs added to Marathon 2025 playlist: Sad but true , Holier than thou - yeah yeah will do some older ones next week

Distance: 13.1 miles Pace: 9:13 / mi
