One of the biggest myths about eating disorders is that they’re about food. In reality they are serious mental illnesses driven by emotional distress.

Another common myth is that people with eating disorders are always underweight. In fact over 90% are at a healthy weight or above.

You cannot tell who is struggling just by looking at them.

We’ve just launched a new video on Understanding Eating Disorders.

Eating disorders are serious and complex mental illnesses. They are not just about food. They are not always visible. And they can affect anyone regardless of age, gender or background.

In this video our Eating Disorders Therapist explains:
- The myths that stop people getting help
- Early warning signs
- Why eating disorders are about emotional distress
- How treatment works
- Why recovery is possible

Greater understanding reduces stigma. And stigma is one of the biggest barriers to people asking for support.

Grief isn’t linear or tidy. It can hit on birthdays anniversaries holidays or a random Tuesday afternoon. It asks for space. It asks for patience. It asks for respect.

This poem, written by Camilla Fadel, speaks to the inner world of grief the part most people don’t see. The panic the overwhelm the need for someone to sit nearby or step back. Grief doesn’t end. It stays rooted in the love that shaped it.

Children don’t always have the words for grief but their behaviour often speaks for them. Difficulty sleeping tummy aches sudden worries or big emotional swings can all be ways grief shows up.

Clear language helps. Being direct about death avoiding phrases like “gone to sleep” and creating repeated chances to talk can make a real difference. Young people don’t need perfect explanations. They just need honesty and space.

Supporting someone who’s grieving isn’t about finding the perfect thing to say.

It’s about noticing the shifts. Some days they may want quiet. Some days they may want space. Some days they may want to talk laugh cry or even go on a rollercoaster just to feel something different.

There’s no single blueprint. Just curiosity care and checking in with “What would help you today?”

A first Christmas a birthday a wedding anniversary a meaningful date. These moments can be grounding or overwhelming or both.

And that’s a natural part of remembering someone you love.

The festive season tends to look shiny from the outside.
