The Best Gift🎁 You Can Give Yourself 💪🏼

If I was to ask you what is the most transformative thing that you can do for your physical and mental health today? What would you say?

Exercise! Yes, that is correct 😄
A short workout of moderate-intensity lasting 30 minutes has an immediate effect on your brain and can increase neurotransmitters such as dopamine and serotonin to lift your mood and help your focus and attention. Getting physically active cuts down on stress hormones reducing anxiety and depression.

What about the long-term
Well, exercise has some amazing protective effects on our brains. long-term exercise changes the brain anatomy, physiology, and function. It can Improve long-term memory, focus, attention, and our overall mood.

So, what about from the neck down what does exercise do for us? Our heart is a muscle and if we are active regularly it gets bigger and stronger, we will start to develop more capillaries in our muscles hence why exercise gets easier over time. It can help tackle obesity, heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, and osteoporosis. Now, who wants to miss out on these benefits. Exercise is truly a gift we owe to ourselves. If you are struggling to get physically active for whatever reason and need help DM 📲 "Active" and we can help get you started 🚀

Yes! You! 💪🏼

It doesn’t matter who you are or what you do! You are an athlete! If you want to perform at your best personally and professionally view yourself as an athlete. Now as an athlete it is critical to focus on the quality of your diet and exercise and understand how your body can serve your mind.

Ronaldo & Serena Williams, now they are examples of great athletes, but do you know what these two athletes have in common? Yes, they invest millions of dollars to work with the best coaches, nutritionists, therapists etc… but it is their devotion to maximise their abilities physically and more importantly mentally to perform at the highest levels whilst handling immense pressure that sets them apart.
Now we don’t need to go that far and start spending our savings! Most of us don’t make a living out of how well we perform in a sport, but we still should be Devoted to treating our bodies as our Greatest Asset. Have you ever considered that your physical health is the foundation of your mental health?
If you want to perform and feel your best, you must invest in yourself physically. Exercise is truly the best gift you can reward yourself! It can help reduce anxiety, treat depression, and boost learning and memory. What about food? What we put into our bodies has a massive impact on how we perform both short term and long term. A healthy balanced diet can help stabilise our mood, concentration and keep us energised throughout the day. Reflect on what your body needs in relation to physical activity, exercise, and nutrition. Pick an area and make a small change! Even something like putting in less sugar with your tea or coffee! Take a short walk every day. Doesn’t matter as long as you make a positive change and start to create momentum! 🚀

Physical Training Throughout History 📚

When Genghis Khan invaded Persia and took the army’s weapons, Persian warriors practised “Varzesh-e-Bastani” a traditional system of athletics and a form of martial arts 🤼 to help keep them fit and ready to fight. One of the innocent-looking tools used for weight training was the Persian meels. Let me tell you handling these meels is no easy task and I was only holding 10kg. The heavier meels weigh 40kg! No way I can swing that 😅! Not surprisingly, these early tools and physical activities were all based on practical, natural movement skills and mainly related to the preparedness needed for war. Being fit was key to survival!

Prioritise Your Health 🙏🏼

Often in the daily grind of life, our health gets sacrificed, after all, we must prioritise. We can’t abandon work because we must get ahead, preparing nutritious food may be seen as time-consuming, so we order takeaways or skip meals, postpone hitting the gym “who has time for that”, getting enough sleep is a luxury and taking time out to give our racing mind a break is impossible. It is easy for life to take over and for our health to fall by the wayside, but every day is a new opportunity for us to make a new start. The benefits and returns of being fit and healthy may not be completely obvious, to start what we put in our body has a direct impact on how we feel physically and mentally. Consuming a diet predominately made of processed foods and refined sugars may give us the short-term dopamine spike but will leave us tired and less focused in the long run. Think about a time when you ate well and how that made you feel! Now exercise is one of the simplest most effective instant feel-good boosters. In addition to strengthening our hearts, lungs and muscles, a huge body of research shows regular physical activity improves mental health, reduces anxiety and stress, and improves memory. Lastly consider how even a single sleepless night can make us moody and irritable, it is no surprise chronic sleep deprivation leads to anxiety and depression. Getting enough sleep helps us focus, be more productive and be creative. I’m not a big fan of motivation Mondays and getting all pumped thinking we can change everything in an instant! We can switch our mindset for sure but pick one area you can work on this week and make a small win there 💪🏼

Habit based approaches founded on rules and routines you adopt and maintain regularly go a long way to help you improve your energy levels, recovery, improve satiety and control hunger. Consider having a bedtime routine and getting enough shut-eye time and the impact that has on your lifestyle. Quality sleep, physical activity, and weight management synergistically support a healthier lifestyle. If you sleep well, you’ll have more energy to exercise and better impulse control. When you work out, you’ll find it easier to sleep and keep a healthy weight. Remember always focus on the basics and get them right first consistently before trying anything "unique" 💫

To achieve a fit, strong, and lean physique we must create an ecosystem that supports a healthy and fit lifestyle. The reason people succeed temporarily when it comes to their weight, diet, sleep, mobility, meditation and so on is because they treat these important components in isolation rather than using them as building blocks “ecosystem” that work together to build and support a healthy and fit lifestyle. unless you change your ecosystem, your fight to get fit and lean will be a constant uphill battle!

🥗How to Work Out Your Energy Requirements 🍽

Understanding energy balance and how much food you need is essential to long term weight management success. There are so many promoted misconceptions about nutrition and macronutrients that jump at you when you hear things like "Is bread bad? Or “should I take the yolks out when I eat eggs?” or “Should I go on a keto diet?” or “Is eating late at night bad” Such questions may sound reasonable, but in fact, are missing the whole point! Does it fit with your energy balance? Does it fit in with the protein, fat or carbohydrate intakes that you have available for the day? To help you understand this and estimate your requirements I added a video guide and an excel calculator in the bio. Part of the Optimum Fitness Lifestyle is doing these calculations ✍🏼 and ordering your food based on your required macros 💪🏼

.... I help busy professionals integrate exercise and healthy eating into their routines to support stress reduction and fat loss. My role is to distill the overwhelming amount of contradictory information that swirls around the health and fitness industry and help you find what works for you to achieve your goals.

I understand how challenging it can be to balance a busy full-time career, family, fitness routine, and friends to maintain some sort of a decent social schedule. I want to give you the framework, tools, and mindset to build your own healthy habits that not only see you reach your goal but maintain the results well into the future.
