Good news after an unacceptable delay for members in Northern Ireland.

Claire Ronald, CSP senior negotiating officer for Northern Ireland, said:

‘While it is welcome that this issue has finally been resolved, our members in Northern Ireland should never have had to wait this long for pay parity.

'We will hold the health minister to his word to commit to future pay awards being paid on time.’

Health minister Mike Nesbitt has confirmed pay parity for health service staff in Northern Ireland, bringing them back into line with colleagues in Wales and England. The pay rise recommended by pay review bodies will be backdated in full to 1 April.

'This is a huge opportunity for employers and healthcare systems to recognise the power of rehabilitation in keeping people well and working.

'A significant part of that success depends on employers playing their part by harnessing the full expertise, experience and capacity of the independent physiotherapy sector, alongside NHS services, to create healthier, more supportive workplaces.'

The CSP has welcomed the publication of the Keep Britain Working report, a cross-government review that sets out a new approach to tackling worklessness and improving workplace health.

Cold, damp or unsafe housing shouldn’t make people ill - yet 1 in 4 in the UK live in homes that could.

As a MaxHealth = MaxWealth member, we’re calling for a cross-government strategy to make health equal.

Long COVID left Kristy-Anne unable to dress herself, much less go to work. She grieved for the person she was and sank into a dark place.

Starting rehab led by physio Sajith changed everything. It gave her hope, strength - and the belief she could have a life again.

Today, she’s back at work, going to football with her son and feeling herself again.

'What Age UK has revealed today should shake us all. This isn’t just a crisis in plain sight – it’s a quiet tragedy unfolding in hospital corridors across the country.

'Older people left waiting, frightened, stripped of dignity, while exhausted staff do everything they can in impossible conditions.'

Sara Hazzard responds to the shocking report by Age UK, which has revealed the extent of long waits for treatment and 'corridor care' faced by older people.

Rehabilitation is key to unlocking patient flow in the NHS, yet only 1 in 3 physios say they have enough staff to do their jobs properly. The priority must be to create the posts and invest in the services that patients and the healthcare system urgently need.

'The renewal of this strategy presents a further opportunity to build on the current women’s health strategy and recognise the vital role that physiotherapy staff play in providing specialised care and in supporting women throughout their life course.'

The government has announced its women's health strategy is to be renewed in a drive to improve access and tackle inequalities. We are calling for a guarantee that the national commitments set out in the current women’s health strategy will be protected in the review.

'It’s shocking that rehabilitation space continues to be sidelined and routinely taken away from physiotherapy teams who are then forced to provide care in corridors.'

The Guardian reports on the stark results of our latest member survey, which revealed a widespread loss of suitable rehabilitation space in hospitals and the impact on patients.

Six in 10 practitioners say loss of rehabilitation space in hospitals is harming chances of patients recovering
