We’ve been helping the race team for close to a decade and we wanted to share a story of how we helped Simon McNamara, a team rider, who’s disc injury put an early end to his season.
shares his story.
‘I’ve been a bike rider all of my life and have also had some issues with my back over the years.
Sometimes it’s easy to obsess and focus on the training, diet and mental approach to bike racing whilst failing to take good care of the basics like core strength and fitness for simple day to day life activities.
This summer a back injury stopped my season in its tracks and curtailed my plans to compete at Badlands.cc gravel in September.
However, it was a great opportunity (not that I saw it at the time) to have a re-set, both mentally and physically in order to progress forwards.
Luckily I had the help and support of Craig at Putney Chiro on board to help diagnose the issue, through X-Ray and MRI scans to then form a treatment plan to help get me back to health and fitness and ultimately in a much better physical state than what I was prior to the injury.
Bi-weekly early doors visits to the clinic have been invaluable, firstly in understanding the injury, encouraging me to take the time away from the bike to recover, working with the injury and then seeing an increase in range of movement, flexibility and core strength that has ultimately led to me getting me back out on the bike. (4 bulged discs with one herniating into the spinal cord)’
It’s been a pleasure to help formulate a plan to recovery, help him understand the injury and healing times, remove the biomechanical restrictions in his spine that had built up over the years and set out a plan to build strength for the 2026 season.
