Year in Review 2025

As the year draws to a close, it offers an opportunity to reflect on some of the most meaningful moments in Mr Florian Bast’s practice, from international charity work to clinic growth and recognition for exceptional surgical results.

It has been a year marked by progress, collaboration, and the privilege of supporting patients through life-changing functional and aesthetic treatment.

🏆 Aesthetic Awards Win- Best Surgical Result 2025
One of the standout highlights was Mr Bast receiving the award for Best Surgical Result 2025 at the Aesthetic Awards, a recognition of his commitment to precision, natural outcomes, and patient-focused care. This achievement is a testament to the trust patients place in him and the dedication of the wider team.

🌏 Vietnam Facing the World Surgical Mission
This year, Mr Bast also returned to Vietnam as part of his work with Facing the World, a global health charity that has transformed care for children with severe craniofacial differences for almost 20 years.

Working with major hospitals including Viet Duc University Hospital, 108 Military Hospital and Hong Ngoc Hospital, the charity has helped grow craniofacial teams from just five surgeons to more than fifty, enabling over 10,000 life-changing surgeries every year.

Through the charity’s “Train the Trainers” model, more than 187 international fellowships have already been completed, with a further 200 planned. Over £2.5 million of advanced equipment has been donated, and Southeast Asia’s first Craniofacial Centre of Excellence has been established, accredited by the Royal College of Surgeons.

🏥 New Clinic Locations
This year also marked the beginning of Mr Bast’s work at new clinic locations, including LIPS and Montrose, expanding access to specialist rhinology, aesthetics and facial plastic surgery for patients across London.

✨ Patient Care and Transformative Results
Above all, the most rewarding part of the year has been the privilege of caring for patients, from complex revision rhinoplasty cases to functional nasal surgery and ongoing aftercare. Their experiences, trust, and feedback continue to shape every aspect of Mr Bast’s approach.

Thank you to all patients, colleagues, and partners for a remarkable year.

Mr Bast looks forward to continuing to provide expert, compassionate care in 2026.

This patient presented with a significantly crooked nose following several severe sports traumas, combined with a genetic predisposition to deviation. These factors had caused a massive septal deviation, resulting in complete blockage of the left airway.

Mr Bast performed an open functional septorhinoplasty, straightening both the septum and the bony framework to restore structure, symmetry, and clear breathing.

Once the initial healing phase is complete, a return to sports is possible, although patients are advised to take care and minimise the risk of further trauma to protect the long-term result.

If you have experienced a sports injury or trauma to the nose that is causing you discomfort, Mr Bast could help you.

For this week’s “Get to Know Mr Bast”, he shares a little more about what inspires his work and what he finds most rewarding about his speciality.

We asked him three questions:
• What first inspired him to specialise in Rhinology and Facial Plastic Surgery?
• What does he enjoy most about rhinoplasty?
• And what is the most rewarding part of helping patients improve their breathing?

From the early mentors who shaped his passion, to the precision and artistry of rhinoplasty, to the profound impact that improved breathing can have on a patient’s daily life, his reflections offer a glimpse into the dedication behind his work and the values that guide his practice.

“Do noses keep growing?”

It’s a surprisingly common question, and the answer is not exactly.
The nasal bones stop growing in adolescence, but the soft tissues of the nose continue to change throughout adulthood. Over time, collagen loss, skin thickening, and natural weakening of the nasal support structures can make the nose appear longer, wider, or more droopy, even though it isn’t truly “growing.”

Ageing can also subtly change airflow and tip support, which is why some patients notice new breathing difficulties or changes in nasal shape later in life.

During a consultation, Mr Bast can assess whether these changes are structural, age-related, or functional, and discuss tailored options to restore both balance and breathing.

The ear, nose, and throat may seem like separate areas, but medically they form a single, interconnected system. Each is lined by the same mucous membrane, and all three structures communicate with one another.

The nose acts as the main airway filter and connects directly to the throat and sinuses. The throat (pharynx) channels air into the windpipe and also links to the digestive tract. The ears are connected to the back of the nose through the Eustachian tube, which helps equalise pressure and drain fluid.

Because of these connections, inflammation or blockage in one area, for example, congestion, allergies, or sinus disease, often affects the others, leading to issues such as muffled hearing, sore throats, pressure, or recurrent infections.

As a Consultant ENT and Facial Plastic Surgeon, Mr Bast assesses these structures as a whole, ensuring patients receive a clear diagnosis and treatment plan that addresses both symptoms and underlying causes.

A patient who recently underwent septorhinoplasty with Mr Florian Bast shared how the procedure transformed both their breathing and confidence.

After breaking their nose at a young age, they were left with a deviated septum and a dorsal hump that affected both function and appearance. During their consultations, Mr Bast took time to discuss each concern in depth, ensuring that the patient felt fully listened to, informed, and supported throughout the process.

Six months on, their breathing has markedly improved, and the aesthetic result is exactly as hoped, smooth, balanced, and natural, with no visible scarring.

They also praised the seamless experience and attentive care from Mr Bast and his PA, Julia, describing the journey as reassuring, professional, and far easier than expected.

This kind feedback reflects the team’s dedication to combining precise surgical technique with personalised, patient-centred care from start to finish.

Around 30% of the UK population experiences nasal breathing issues - a problem that can affect sleep, exercise, concentration, and overall quality of life.

During a consultation, Mr Bast carefully assesses whether breathing difficulties are caused by structural concerns (such as septal deviation, valve collapse, turbinate enlargement) or skin-related factors (including swelling, inflammation, or thickness of the soft tissues).

Both structural and skin-related issues can be addressed with the right treatment plan, whether through medical therapy, functional rhinoplasty, or targeted techniques to open and support the airway.

A clear diagnosis is the first step, and for many patients, small refinements can make a remarkable difference in day-to-day comfort and long-term breathing function.
