GACD - Globalalliancechronicdiseases Tackling NCDs by encouraging research, funding and policy integration to fill the gap between what works and achieving health gains in practice.

The Global Alliance for Chronic Diseases (GACD) is a unique collaboration of major research funding agencies that seek to address the prevention, control and treatment of chronic non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in low and middle-income countries and marginalised populations in high-income countries. As the international secretariat, the GACD aims to drive coordination, awareness and capacity building between researchers, funders and policy makers. By bringing together national and international funding agencies from medical research councils in the UK, the US, Australia, Canada, India, South Africa and the European Commission, our work represents more than 80% of all public research funding in the world. Cardiovascular disease (mainly heart disease and stroke), several cancers, chronic respiratory conditions, type-2 diabetes and mental illness are classed as non-communicable diseases. According to the World Health Organisation (2013) 80% of NCD deaths – 29 million – occur in low- and middle-income countries. NCDs disproportionately affect those who are poor. Let’s make the changes we want to see in the world. Join the discussion – Like us on Facebook. Follow us on Twitter. Share our research proposals.
