A friend of mine recently shared the incredibly sensible idea of preparing a Go Bag to have ready to take in with you in case you need to go into hospital. That way, if you do end up having to go into hospital on a moment's notice, it will be easier for you, it will make your stay more comfortable and it will help ease the burden on hospital staff.
The NHS has a suggested list for preparing a bag for a long hospital stay, which I've tweaked. If you're staying in hospital, you may wish to pack:
A nightdress or pyjamas
Day clothes
A few pairs of clean underwear
A dressing gown and slippers
A small hand towel
Toiletries – soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo and deodorant (I'd add face cream to this as hospitals can be very dry)
Sanitary towels or tampons (or a menstrual cup/period panties)
A razor and shaving materials
Your hairbrush and a couple of hair bands (if needed)
A couple of books, a kindle and/or magazines
A small amount of cash
The medication(s) you normally take, and a list of the doses for each medicine. I'd put all these into a small ziplock bag.
Your glasses or contact lenses with case (if needed)
A notebook and pen
An address book and important phone numbers, including your GP's contact details
Your phone and its charger, a tablet and its charger (with some films and music already downloaded) as well as a pair of headphones
A bottle of water - they'll eventually give you something, but it may take a while, and frankly they have more important things to be doing, so try to be prepared
Some healthy snacks (nuts, seeds, dried fruit)
A sleeping mask and earplugs
I'm going to go prepare my Go Bag now. I'm hoping I won't need it and I'm hoping you won't either!
