🎃 Halloween Safety Guidance
With Halloween celebrations taking place across the county, residents are reminded to keep safety in mind while enjoying the festivities.
🎃 Ensure clear visibility: Make sure children’s vision is not restricted by masks or costumes, so they can remain alert to moving vehicles and avoid tripping hazards.
🎃 Check costume safety: Costumes should fit correctly and meet recognised safety standards. Look for labels such as “This garment has undergone additional safety testing for flammability” as part of the British Retail Consortium’s code of practice.
🎃 Be allergy aware: For anyone with food allergies, always check the ingredient information on packets of sweets before consumption.
🎃 Avoid fire risks: Use LED lights instead of candles. Although candles create a lovely glow, they can pose a significant fire hazard.
🎃 Stay visible: Carry electric lights or glow sticks to ensure children can be seen easily when out after dark.
🎃 Respect property: Only visit homes that are clearly participating in Halloween celebrations.
🎃 Road safety: Drivers are reminded to take extra care, as there will be more children on pavements and crossing roads during the evening.
⏰ Permitted Firework Times
It is an offence to set off fireworks between 11pm and 7am, except on the following dates:
5 November (Bonfire Night): until midnight
Diwali, New Year’s Eve, and Chinese New Year: until 1am
It is also illegal to set off fireworks in a public place.
By following these guidelines, residents can help ensure that Halloween, Diwali, and Bonfire Night celebrations are both safe and enjoyable for everyone.
