🎬 We’re back with Episode 2 of How AV You Done It? - our behind-the-scenes series where we ditch the glossy installs and show the less polished, nerdy under-the-hood stuff that actually makes AV work.

We’re always looking for little ways to make our systems feel better to use, and this time Sean put together a really handy bit of Lua scripting to help with exactly that.

💡 Introducing: The Perceptual Gain Block

🔉 Most people assume 50% on a volume fader equals 50% of what they hear, but it doesn’t quite work that way. We noticed clients living in the top section of the fader because the middle just didn’t feel responsive.

So Sean wrote a clever bit of scripting to smooth everything out, making the fader respond in a way that feels way more natural and predictable.

A subtle tweak. A big boost to user experience.

☔️ It’s December in Manchester… which means it’s definitely raining, and we’re definitely wet! But we’ve been working on something very cool, it almost makes it all worth it!

We were asked to create a media artwork piece for the brand-new Soho House Manchester, celebrating the history of the iconic Granada building and their new home up here Norf! 🙌

And we went full retro…😎

We designed bespoke TV enclosures with serious nostalgic charm, complete with vac-formed Perspex fronts, crafted by the incredibly talented crew at Spur Creative.

Next week, we’ll be installing square monitors inside each enclosure and powering everything with BrightSign, LLC players.

We’ve also teamed up with the absolute legend Hexstatic to create a synchronised content loop that’ll bring the piece to life.

Final install coming soon, until then… we’ll be drying our socks. Oh wait, London’s raining too! 🙄

💥 What a way to wrap up the 2025 season. Somehow, the office walls DID survive the JBL takeover (we’re still not sure how the four SRX918S subs didn’t redecorate the place), and Phil Ashby and Chris Baker absolutely delivered. 💃

True pros behind the decks, they took us on a journey from house classics to proper wobblers, and the energy didn’t dip once.

👏 Huge thanks to Midwich and the Harman Professional Solutions team for sponsoring this one and supporting us every step of the way.

But what really blew us away was the crowd. A brilliant mix of suppliers, clients, consultants, friends and all the conversations that only happen when the music’s great and everyone’s relaxed. Exactly what Lateside is meant to be. 🧡

🌎 While the UK was freezing, our “holiday snaps” from APAC tell a very different story… up to 36°C, installing MANY Cisco Webex devices for one of our global managed services clients.

Sure, we may look like tourists… but between long days of work, we did manage to tick off a few sights:

✅ 20+ Cisco meeting rooms

Meanwhile, another part of the team was getting frostbite in Canada… but still found time to visit:

Not bad for a small local team, personal service at its best, delivering big global projects, eh?

Fed up of seeing glossy installs all over your feed and never the dark, dirty underbelly of AV? We get it. 🙄

Sometimes it’s messy, gritty, and technical, and that’s exactly what our new behind-the-scenes series How AV You Done It? is all about.

📽️ First up: Episode 1: Bass Booster. Ever notice how a tiny Bluetooth speaker can feel like it’s delivering more bass than a full professional system at low volumes? Turns out there’s a science behind it!

🔉 The human ear is less sensitive to low frequencies at lower volumes, so bass often feels weak unless you crank it up. We didn’t want to settle for that.

💡 Enter Dynamic Bass EQ, Sean’s clever little addition that we’re now integrating into our installed audio systems. It keeps the low end warm and full at quiet levels, without ever overwhelming your ears when the volume goes up.

A small tweak. A huge everyday improvement. 🙌

📌🇬🇧 We’ve just wrapped up a seriously luxe project at Lilibet’s in Mayfair, the new restaurant built on the very birthplace of Queen Elizabeth II.

No big deal… just crafting an audio system fit for actual royalty. 👑

We chose K-array’s Vyper loudspeakers, the perfect blend of performance and insane form factor. Each one was custom-finished to blend into the vibrant interiors, making them pretty much invisible. 👻

Along the walls, you’ll find the Vypers; tucked under banquettes and hidden in joinery are the K-array's Rumble subs doing the heavy lifting.

All tied together with QSC Q-SYS control, delivering smooth, rich audio across the entire space.

Special delivery from JBL by Harman… and we’re slightly worried…These things are absolute BEASTS! 🤯

The SRX900s have officially arrived for tomorrow’s and we’re now taking bets on whether the office walls survive four SRX918S subs and four SRX906LAs per side. (If Dock Street starts vibrating around 6pm, you’ll know why.) 😂

🎧 DJs Chris English and Phil Ashby are taking over the decks, bringing the final Lateside of the year home in style.

Music, good people, proper AV vibes and apparently now, seismic activity.

📌 When WatchHouse opened at Battersea Power Station, they wanted their largest Espresso Bar yet, and it became our biggest AV project for WatchHouse so far, packed with custom design and engineering challenges. 🤯

👉 The Mirrored Digital Signage Menu
This 8-metre beauty pushed things further than ever. Off-the-shelf solutions couldn’t cope, so we worked with our partners to create a bespoke Mirror TV solution in four precision-built sections.

Two panels are active, two are dummies, each using 2000-nit adaptive OLED displays, bright enough to shine through the mirror yet completely hidden.

Accessible service panels with gas struts keep the seamless “shadow gap” detailing intact while allowing easy maintenance.

👉 The Audio
We collaborated closely with the joinery team to integrate speakers directly into the wall cladding. Custom enclosures and CNC step files ensured perfect alignment, housing Martin Audio Ltd CDD10 drivers and crossovers powered by Blaze Audio DSP and amplification.

To extend full-range sound across the space, we added Bose Professional DM5C pendant speakers for warmth and clarity, and in the private dining room, a routed timber detail conceals a discreet speaker for a clean, minimal look.

Arguably the best audio you're ever heard in a coffee shop! 🙌

👉 Behind the Scenes
We installed the full IT and network infrastructure, including Ruckus Networks WiFi and Zyxel Worldwide switching, ensuring smooth operations and reliable connectivity.

It’s been brilliant to see this space come to life, a seamless mix of craft, technology and great coffee at Battersea Power Station!

🏆 We’ve only bloody gone and done it again! We’re absolutely thrilled to share that our very own Jack Cornish, Tateside’s Technical Director, has been named AV Professional of the Year at the ! 🙌

💬 The judges praised Jack as “a confident and capable leader who combines deep technical expertise with strategic vision, guiding Tateside forward with skill and integrity.”

His journey from technician to company leader, all by the age of 37, clearly made an impression, showcasing both incredible professional growth and genuine leadership.

This is our second win in two years!

Our marketing team (hi Rachael and Daisy) are now wondering how the f**k we’re supposed to beat this one. So they’ve decided on a new target: Lifetime Achievement Award by the time Jack turns 40. 😆

For now, Jack remains in a state of shock and has no comment.

Mega congrats, Jack, and thank you for everything you do to make Tateside what it is. 🧡

🎧 Meet the DJs: Chris English and Phil Ashby are taking over ! They will be spinning the decks at our final event of the year on 20th November!

📸 For some reason, our work-in-progress photos always seem to get way more love than the shiny, polished project shots. Maybe there’s just something satisfying about a good cable run or a tidy rack.

The AV world is a weird…

So, here’s your Friday fix of WIP content, straight from our latest FinTech project in Devonshire Square. We’re just putting the finishing touches on seven Cisco-powered meeting rooms of all shapes and sizes, as part of a much bigger project (more on that soon 👀).

👉 So the tech! Featuring Cisco, Shure UK, and QSC!

We used Cisco Codecs, Quad Cam, PTZ, and mics, plus some Shure Microflex microphones, QSC speakers, and Q-SYS processing, with a Bluetooth plate to top it off!

🔉 Huge shoutout to Ale, it’s his first project since he started, with support from Rich. Also, Adam, Will, George, and Olli, who’ve been smashing through an incredibly tight schedule to get everything wrapped up.

Meanwhile, Seanie D somehow managed to find himself invited to an onsite client feast instead... 😆

After putting the Spin Studio in the spotlight, it’s time to share the bigger story at Belfry Golf Resort! 🙌

As part of its latest expansion, including a new hotel block and wellness hub, The Club, we were brought in by hotel technology consultants Fluent2 to deliver AV solutions across multiple zones – one of the largest hotel projects we’ve worked on to date. 🧡

🔉 We’re incredibly proud of the result, integrating technologies from leading manufacturers, including QSC Q-SYS, Bose Professional, AUDAC, Samsung Electronics, Shure UK, Sonance, Blustream, Netgear, and Neutrik.

From the ballroom to the spin studio, each space was designed to perform at its best. It was a complex, multi-zone project delivered under tight deadlines – and seeing it all come together feels like a real hole-in-one for the Tateside team (soz about that!) 😆
