🌕✨ Honoring Samhain: The Turning of the Wheel ✨🌕

As October draws to a close, we arrive at Samhain — the ancient Celtic festival marking the end of the harvest and the beginning of the darker half of the year.

Traditionally, this was a time to pause, reflect, and honor the cycle of life, death, and rebirth.

It’s said that during Samhain, the veil between worlds grows thin — allowing us to connect more deeply with our ancestors, intuition, and inner wisdom. This sacred pause invites us to release what no longer serves us and create space for new intentions to take root as we move into winter’s stillness.

In women’s health and wellness, Samhain reminds us of the beauty in cyclical living — the power of rest, reflection, and renewal. Just as nature sheds her leaves, we too are invited to let go and call in something new: a fresh intention, a nourishing practice, or a gentler rhythm for the months ahead.

🕯️ Take a moment this weekend to light a candle, journal, or simply breathe and ask yourself:

What am I ready to release?
What do I want to welcome in next?

Wishing you a grounded and soulful Samhain — may this turning of the wheel bring peace, clarity, and renewal.

I am so looking forward to half term! It’s been quite a sprint since September and now the seasons are definitely changing more towards winter our energy can dip along with sunlight hours. What I do know is that I am feeling the need for some rest.

Today I had a stressful morning and decided to push some admin tasks to another day and take a couple of hours this afternoon to connect with a dear friend.

We walked in the sunshine and admired the stunning autumn leaves and then she took me to her allotment where we munched some of these beautiful nasturtium flowers and collected some chard and cavalo nero for dinner.

It was definitely what I needed and not time wasted. I know there is part of me that has a constant drive to be productive and do something useful that need to be mindful of. It can lead to unhealthy places!

So I need to rein it in sometimes and remind myself of the importance of being ‘unproductive’. Of slowing down, connecting with nature, connecting with loved ones, soothing our nervous system and restoring equilibrium.

Taking time to do this can mean that when we do take action it can be grounded, aligned, focused and efficient. When I’m in the right state I can get so much done in a couple of hours, whereas pushing through stress and fatigue I take much longer, make mistakes, lack inspiration.

I know not everyone is self employed and able to flex their diary, but often there are some small opportunities that can make a difference. I invite you then to notice when you feel close to overwhelm, or when things are starting to spiral, or when little accidents and mistakes are occurring, and take a pause.

Feel your feet on the ground
Take 3 full deep breaths
Ask yourself what you need

When we reconnect with our centre, we can get more clarity on how to shift our state and from there make aligned decisions on what steps to take, what items to prioritise, what help to seek - could you shift a deadline, could you delegate a task, could you have an early night.

In case you need to hear it - you have permission to rest or take a break and take care of yourself. ❤️

Giving myself permission to pause this morning!

The start of school has been so much admin and travels drama on top of a full work schedule that today when I unexpectedly have a clear morning after school drop off I decided to do a bit of ‘nothing’!

So I’m sitting having my coffee and pastry treat, listening to bird song, watching the trees sway in the breeze, enjoying warm September sunshine and soothing my nerves.

Because life is challenging, and there is so much around us designed to make us feel anxious, outraged, scared, upset, ashamed, that we’re not good enough, successful enough, fit enough, happy enough, thinking the right thoughts or doing enough to save the world.

Stop the noise! 🙉

If we want peace and happiness it starts with us. As the famous quote from Ghandi says - be the change you want to see in the world.

The more unsettled things feel, the more we need to pause, take a breath and get grounded. Be more tree! 🌳

I believe being a calm presence in the world does make a difference. When we are centred and calm we are much more able to think clearly, make good decisions, less likely to be triggered, and more in touch with our intuition. It changes how we see and experience the world around us and in turn, improves the quality of our interactions with others.

If you are feeling edgy, stressed and worried about the future - I totally understand. This isn’t about denying reality but trying to find a way to keep a cool head in a crisis, to avoid making decisions from a place of fear or anger.

So I’m inviting you to give yourself permission to do something everyday that soothes your nerves. It can feel ‘unproductive’ but is so necessary.

You may also like to get some deep relaxation with reflexology or restorative yoga. Info & booking links are available in my bio. ❤️

I had a lovely walk over the heath today with my daughter who came with me on my usual commute to teach my yoga for cancer classes at .

Coming back afterwards we had time to explore and stop to notice the subtle changes of the season, the trees are still lush and green; we enjoyed the late summer sun and I discovered these unusual mushrooms encircling one tree. They are the size of large cabbages! (Do you know what they are, I’d love to know their name?!)

For me seeing more fungus in the woods is a sign that Autumn is on its way and I’ve been feeling the internal pull to prepare for the next phase by making a more cosy and beautiful work space at home, decluttering, simplifying and making life easier (in theory!)

Next week is back to school and it’s made me rethink my own routine too. There is definitely some self care improvements to be made and I need to give myself more free time to be creative.

What would you like to change about your weekly schedule? What would you add and what would you like to drop?

I can’t help you declutter your house, but if you’re looking to have some regular yoga or reflexology then I’m here for you!

Simply drop me a DM and let me know what you need and we can take it from there.

Taking a few days away with my daughter in my home county of Sussex - this time we have rented a gorgeous shepherds hut near the South Downs; our own little escape to the country! This morning was breakfast on the veranda with local eggs and a walk through the fields where we found the best blackberries! I can’t believe it’s only another week until school starts - where has the time gone?! What are your plans this bank holiday?

A little bit of happiness on the way home from work today!

I am almost a month into my gratitude practise and am enjoying the subtle shifts.

It’s so easy to be caught up in our problems that we forget to notice the good stuff that can bring joy. Like having this joyful public art by on the bridge near my clinic!

I was talking to a client today who has also made a decision to shift her mindset away from focusing only on her health problems as she finds it starts to spiral into more depressive thoughts and beliefs. She spoke of being at a retreat and a severely disabled man in an electric wheelchair was the happiest person there. It made her pause to think about her attitude to her own problems.

I suggested that ‘and’ is a great word - tiny but powerful!

I never want to encourage people to gaslight themselves with toxic positivity, to pretend their pain or problems aren’t real. Or to try and rank their problems alongside other people’s. But at the same time we need to balance that recognition of suffering with recognising all the good we have too:

I have pain AND I am loved
I am worried AND I have enough food to eat
It’s been a hard day AND the sun is shining making everything look beautiful
I don’t know what to do AND right now I am safe

We can’t wait for all our problems to be solved before we are happy - we need to find the happy along the way in amongst the messy difficulties of life!

What things make you smile?
