From a friend/colleague I trained with at The College of Cranio-Sacral Therapy (CCST).
4 Myths About Craniosacral Therapy You Need to Know So You Don’t Delay Booking a Session 👇
1. “It’s a Woo-Woo Practice” 👻
✅The Reality: It’s easy to dismiss CST as mystical or "out there," but the truth is, CST operates on scientifically recognised principles and it works with the subtle, rhythmical flow of cerebrospinal fluid and the nervous system.
You don’t have to see Wi-Fi signals to use them, right?
Similarly, CST practitioners work with systems that aren’t immediately visible but can profoundly impact a person’s well-being. It’s not magic—it's a holistic approach grounded in a deep understanding of anatomy, physiology, and the body’s energy systems.
2. “There Isn’t Any Evidence for It” 🕵️♂️
✅The Reality: It's true that CST is still early in terms of robust scientific studies, but that doesn’t mean there’s no evidence.
There's a growing body of research supporting its benefits, particularly for chronic pain, stress, and emotional trauma. While much of the evidence is based on client testimonials and smaller studies, the feedback from patients who’ve resolved their issues, is one to lean on. It's also important to remember that, just like with any emerging field, evidence often comes with time.
3. “It Doesn’t Work—There’s Not Much Happening During the Session” 👎
✅The Reality: In today’s fast-paced world, we’re used to instant results and rapid fixes, but that’s not always how the body works. Craniosacral therapy may seem gentle and subtle, and often the effects aren't immediately obvious.
However
Nervous system needs stillness to reset. The body must enter a state of calm to truly self-regulate and heal. While the therapy might appear uneventful on the surface, it’s stillness that creates the space for deep internal shifts.
Many people leave feeling a sense of lightness or relief without necessarily “feeling” something happening in the moment. It’s not about forcing a change; it’s about allowing the body to do the work at its own pace. This gentleness is often exactly what people need to unwind the accumulated stress and tension.
4. “It’s Not Beneficial for Everyone”👨👩👧👦
✅The Reality: While CST may not be the right fit for someone who is closed off to trying new approaches, the beauty - it’s adaptable for just about anyone, from newborn to the elderly.
CST can be tailored to unique needs—whether it’s addressing physical pain, emotional stress, or simply offering deep relaxation. You don't have to be "sick" to benefit from CST—it’s a tool for maintaining well-being so you can enjoy precious time with your loved ones.

There’s no one-size-fits-all treatment plan. The number of sessions can vary from person to person, and each treatment is personalised to address the specific needs. For some, a few sessions might be enough; for others, it could take more time.
