Many leaders fall into the trap of an 'always on' mindset...

But being contactable at all times - even on annual leave - isn’t effective leadership.

It’s a fast track to burnout.

This article explores why switching off is essential for mental wellbeing, how genuine rest helps the brain reset, and why trusting your team to step up in your absence actually builds stronger, more resilient organisations.

It also includes a 𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐞, 𝐩𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐩𝐫𝐞‑𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐜𝐤𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭 to help managers hand over effectively, set boundaries, and truly disconnect while away.

🔎 Navigating tougher right to work checks

With major changes to the UK’s right to work requirements on the horizon, businesses are facing greater risks and a more complex compliance landscape. Driven by the Border Security Act, these updates go far beyond traditional employees to include freelancers, gig workers, subcontractors and supply chains - with potential penalties of up to £60,000 per worker for getting it wrong.

Join us for an exclusive fireside chat with Keith Rosser, Director of Reed Screening and Chair of the Better Hiring Institute (BHI). A trusted advisor to the Home Office, Keith will break down what’s changing, who’s affected, and, most importantly, what you need to do now to stay compliant.

✅ What you’ll learn:
• Who the new right to work rules apply to
• Responsibilities across complex supply chains
• How to build robust, defensible due diligence processes
• Where technology can simplify compliance
• How to protect your business from financial and reputational risk

🎤 The session includes a 20‑minute live Q&A, giving you the chance to put your questions directly to Keith.

How do you turn an idea into a £50m business before 40?

In the latest episode of all about business, James Reed sits down with Andrew Hulbert, Founder of Pareto Facilities Management, to unpack exactly what it takes to build, scale and ultimately step away from a high-growth business.

From starting out in his bedroom to exiting a £50 million company in his thirties, Andrew shares the realities behind the headline success - the unconventional path into entrepreneurship, the pressure of rapid growth in a fiercely competitive industry, and why ex*****on and consistency matter far more than ideas.

This is an honest conversation about:

· Winning (and keeping) customers.

· Landing the contracts that change everything.

· Building a leadership team strong enough to let go.

· The personal cost of long hours, burnout, and redefining success.

Now focused on family, investing, and sustainability, Andrew offers a refreshingly honest perspective on what success looks like once you’ve achieved it.

🎧 A grounded, unfiltered conversation about entrepreneurship, growth, and life beyond the exit.
