Quiet weeks can be stressful when you’re a small business owner, but they also create space. Today I’m back massaging at and feeling grateful after a slower week.
Alongside my usual parenting duties, it’s been a chance to bake, batch cook and make. And this time of year, whipped shea butter is a must.
A massage therapist’s winter bugbear is hand issues: cracked fingertips, dry tight skin around the nails, hangnail, and those tiny painful splits that seem to appear overnight. Add eczema or irritation from constant hand washing and sanitiser, and winter can be tough on the skin.
Hydration (inside and out) really matters. Winter skin needs nourishment from both directions.
Right now, I’m experimenting with Batana oil. It’s a deep orange oil traditionally used in Central America, rich in fatty acids and known for its anti-inflammatory, skin-supporting properties. It's especially helpful for sore, cracked or inflamed skin. Paired with shea butter, it allows me to use less sweet almond oil, making the blend feel less greasy while still deeply nourishing rough winter patches.
Winter skin needs care, protection and a little extra love 🤍
