Calendula - The Light Healer
Known as the “sun herb,” Calendula has long been cherished in apothecary traditions for its gentle yet powerful healing.
Infused in oil rather than distilled, it carries a warmth that soothes the skin and the spirit alike.
In ancient Mediterranean lore, calendula was linked to the sun god Apollo - a symbol of light, renewal, and restoration. Its golden petals were used to calm inflammation, ease wounds, and protect the body from imbalance.
In modern aromatherapy, calendula oil is used to nurture sensitivity - both emotional and physical.
It softens the skin, supports healing, and restores radiance where there has been stress or strain.

I use this restorative oil in my healing balms and within my bespoke aromatherapy and natural skincare formulating service, where each blend is created to support balance, softness, and inner healing. You can direct message or email me at shelby@embodiedform for more information on this service 🤍

After several weeks of infusing, my macerated oils are now ready to use. Each infusion has been slowly steeped to draw out the natural benefits of the herbs and flowers - supporting the skin and overall wellbeing.
These oils will form the base for my upcoming healing massage balms and bespoke aromatherapy products, created to calm the body, support emotional balance, and care for the skin.
A simple, slow process - guided by the plants and the intention to heal.

Traditional massage v Aromatherapy massage

Traditional massage relaxes your muscles.
Aromatherapy massage relaxes your whole being. Both forms of massage nurture the body, but aromatherapy adds another layer of healing.
Essential oils enhance relaxation, ease anxiety, and create a sensory bridge between body and mind.
The warmth of touch softens the body, while the scent of essential oils speaks quietly to the heart - grounding, soothing, restoring balance from within. 🤍

Apothecary Notes
Rose - The Heart’s Remedy

Rose Essential Oil is among the rarest and most exquisite in aromatherapy - thousands of petals distilled to create a single drop of pure heart medicine.
In Greek mythology, the rose was said to bloom from the tears of Aphrodite, goddess of love, as she mourned her beloved Adonis. Since then, the rose has symbolized the full spectrum of love, beauty, loss, and renewal.
In aromatherapy, rose oil is renowned for its affinity with the emotional and energetic heart. Its aroma helps calm the nervous system, ease anxiety, and gently lift the spirit. It is often used to support those experiencing grief, heartbreak, or emotional fatigue, helping to restore trust, compassion, and balance.
Topically, rose oil offers profound benefits for the skin, hydrating, soothing inflammation, and supporting a radiant, even complexion. Its regenerative properties make it especially valuable for mature, dry, or sensitive skin.
Whether diffused, blended into a carrier oil, or added to your evening ritual, rose invites stillness and self-connection 🩷

October is Menopause Awareness Month a moment to pause and recognise how far we’ve come in understanding this natural stage of life.
Not long ago, women going through hot flashes, mood swings, and sleepless nights were often told they were “hysterical” or suffering from “nervous exhaustion.” Today, we know these are part of a powerful hormonal transition not an illness.
We’ve made huge strides in awareness, but there’s still a way to go. Too many women still feel unheard or brushed off. Every experience is unique and deserves to be treated with empathy and a holistic approach, body, mind, and spirit.
Simple lifestyle shifts can make a real difference, nourishing food, gentle movement, rest, mindfulness, and connection. And for many, aromatherapy massage offers a soothing way to ease tension, calm the mind, and nurture emotional balance.
Menopause isn’t an ending, it’s an evolution. Let’s keep the conversation open and the compassion flowing.

The Beauty of Maceration

Macerating plant materials is one of my favourite slow, grounding processes. I often use calendula, its golden petals gently steeped in oil, releasing their soothing and restorative properties over time.
It’s a simple, mindful ritual that reminds me to slow down and trust the natural pace of transformation. No rush, no shortcuts, just nature working quietly, as it always has.

Bay Laurel - Clarity & Quiet Strength

In Greek myth, the laurel tree was sacred to Apollo - born from both love and loss. The story tells of Daphne, a mountain nymph who fled from Apollo’s pursuit and, calling to the gods for escape, was transformed into a laurel tree. In his sorrow and devotion, Apollo declared the laurel sacred to him - a living symbol of wisdom, victory, and grace through change.
Crowns of its leaves were later given to poets and champions, honoring calm focus over chaos - triumph not through noise, but through clarity.
Bay Laurel essential oil carries that same energy. Its warm, herbal scent sharpens the mind and steadies the breath - perfect before creative work, meditation, or any moment that calls for composure and focus.
It’s one of my newest oils, and it’s quickly become a favorite. The scent feels alive, fresh, green, and quietly powerful. When used in massage or blended with a carrier oil, Bay Laurel supports circulation, stimulates the lymphatic system, and soothes tired muscles. It’s both energising and grounding, a perfect companion for releasing tension while restoring flow.
Simple, ancient, steady - Laurel reminds us that confidence doesn’t need to shout.
