Wise Words Speech Therapy Independent Speech and Language Therapy in Essex. Wise Words is an Independent Speech and Language Service based in West and South West Essex.

Wise Words specialises in working with children and young adults from the ages of 2-19. Together we have worked with a number of children and young adults, with a wide range of communication difficulties in both one to one and group settings. This has been through working with families, schools, and other professionals.

Wise Words Speech Therapy are now able to take on new clients around Epping Forest, Waltham Forest, Redbridge and Barking and Dagenham. We have a Highly Specialist Therapist starting who is able to see pre school or school age children who have speech and language delays or disorders.

Deborah Michaels is now available to see children between 2-16 at The Holly Hospital, Buckhurst Hill for an assessment or therapy sessions.
As well as self payment, Deborah is able to see clients who are covered with AXA PPP or Aviva.

Wise Words of the Week: When having a conversation with your child don't be sidetracked when he/she talks off topic. Do NOT ignore this, as it can reinforce bad patterns and it is not meaningful. REMIND your child about what they were talking about and give them good eye contact and use gestures such as nodding throughout. This way you helping them to maintain a topic in conversation whilst increasing their social communication skills and confidence.

Wise Words of the week: Give your child a choice at every opportunity e.g. 'Do you want juice or biscuit?' This way you are encouraging your child to communicate and let you know what he/she wants through gesture (pointing) or verbal communication. You are also modelling language to your child.

Wise Words of the Week: Always praise your child on specific sentences they say e.g "That was a really good sentence, you remembered to use the word..." General comments like "good talking" does not help your child become aware of what he/she did well. DONT FORGET- always encourage communication with your child!

Wise Words of the week: One of the simplest and easiest ways to encourage language development at home is by modelling language to your child during play. For Example, "teddy's hungry", "feeding teddy", "yum yum", "teddy is eating a banana". Accompany your language with gestures and sounds.
