💡 3 Tips For Doing Your Best When Life Gets TOUGH…
I’ll be honest, the last 2 years have totally kicked my ass. I haven’t felt much like training hard since before the pandemic, I’ve overcome a simultaneous whirlwind of losing my dad in agonising fashion, holding my business together, losing relationships and then starting a whole new chapter of being a dad after all of that!
This isn’t a woe is me - just an illustration that I haven’t been operating from the ‘optimal’ place when it comes to looking after myself, inside and out.
WHICH BRINGS US TO THE POINT.
🏋🏽♀️ Training wise; just doing ‘something’ has kept me moving, even if it feels like a far cry from my years of structured training. Some days I’ll jump in with a friend, others I’ll just stretch, or do 20/30 mins of strength stuff or 30-45 minutes of zone 2 on a bike. I haven’t felt like pushing myself at all for a very long time, but I’ve done my best not to check out completely, and it’s made a big difference to feeling my best.
🥗 Nutritionally I still aimed to stick to a whole food, high protein diet most of the time. There’s been a lot of ice cream and pizzas and eating my feelings in there too. But I also focused on eating delicious and nutritious food most of the time. In fact, cooking for me and Dih became a great pleasure and peace. Learning to prepare food well is an invaluable skill.
🧠 Perfectionism is a truly destructive force. It generally leads to mostly inaction and self loathing. I’ve had to do a lot of work to overcome this in all areas of my life and I’m still working on it. Just acknowledging that it’s never going to be the perfect time or circumstance to do anything and so doing SOMETHING always wins has helped me find new levels of physical, mental and creative health.
♥️ I hope my TED talk helps you think about ways you might be able to do something good for yourself today, even if you’re going through it.
