Barnet Fostering

Barnet Fostering Welcome to our community of foster carers and children's social workers who together provide loving Are You Thinking About Becoming a Foster Carer?

Like any child, foster children need love, security and a warm, stable home environment so that they can thrive. We are looking for local foster carers that can provide this for our looked after children until they are able to return to their families, move on to a new permanent family, or live independently. Foster Carers Come From All Walks of Life! Whether you're married, or single, straight or gay, religious or not, a home owner or renting, and from whatever ethnic background, we strongly encourage local people to take that first step towards changing the lives of children within our local community. So Why Join Barnet Fostering? We strongly believe that local children should be looked after in the area they know because it's more reassuring and it protects their sense of regional identity. Unlike some independent sector fostering providers, Barnet Fostering is a local rather than a national organisation so by joining our supportive team:

➜ You will be changing the lives of children within your local community.

➜ If you are caring for a school-aged child, they will probably be attending a local school.

➜ Most children in care have regular contact sessions with their birth family, usually at our local family contact centre.

➜ Training courses, support groups and social events will be local so much easier to take part in.

➜ Your social worker and your foster child’s social worker will both be based in Barnet.

➜ We work in partnership with local schools, health, voluntary and council services, so we can offer nearby support all year round.

➜ As a local authority, we are 'first in line to the child', which means that can offer a consistent range of placements, and continuity in your fee and allowance.

➜ Our foster carers receive competitive fees and allowances of up to £599 per week per child depending on the age of each child and your skills and experience as a foster carer.

What is it like to foster a teenager?

Fostering a teenager can be challenging but rewarding at the same time. Teenagers often feel lost and lack confidence due to the changes they are experiencing. All they need is stability, direction, and understanding 🫂

The best thing you can do is be supportive and welcoming while supervising and guiding them in the right direction, helping them thrive into adult life😊
