Sleep myths are everywhere.

The problem is, most people never question them. Over time, those beliefs start to shape how you see yourself.

Here are some of the biggest myths I hear.

Sleep isn’t about perfect routines, tracking every stage, or forcing yourself to rest. Your body already knows how to sleep. What usually gets in the way is the story you’ve been told about being a sleeper.

When you believe that story long enough, you start labeling yourself. And that label keeps the cycle going.

If you want change, start by questioning the myths you’ve been believing. When the belief shifts, the sleep can shift too.

We can't unlearn our instinct to sleep, it's hardwired into us from the day we are born. However, we can override it with belief.

After 15 years as a hypnotherapist, if I can tell you anything, it's this: You can have the perfect environment, the best supplements, and the ideal routine. But if deep down you believe "I am not a good sleeper," this will become your reality.

We focus so much on the external fixes, but true change is working with the root belief.

After 15 years of working with people, I’ve learned that sometimes all someone really needs is to be heard, understood, and believed in. When that happens, they find the strength to believe in themselves.

We've been sold a lie that belief comes first, then action. But in reality, belief is a byproduct of proof. At least for the subconscious mind.

For 15 years, I've watched private clients struggle with "I just need to believe in myself more." I've seen people stare in the mirror, recite affirmations, and wait for something to shift. But here is the truth I've learned: if the subconscious mind holds a counter-belief, something stored deep in the nervous system, no amount of mirror work will override that deep held belief.

You cannot think your way out of a subconscious pattern. You have to uncover it, and then you have to take action that contradicts the old story.

Stop trying to convince yourself with words. Start convincing yourself with results.

Notes from My Private Practice: Overthinking

I’m often asked about overthinking the past.
When you replay a situation again and again, you believe you’re moving toward a solution.
You’re not. It’s rumination.

Your brain assumes that if it analyses it enough, it will find the answer, the thing you missed, the explanation, any sort of detail that will somehow protect you. It’s an attempt at safety.

But instead of resolving anything, it simply keeps you in a recurring loop.

Notes from My Private Practice: Overthinking.

Over the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing some of the patterns I see most often in private practice.

The details are always confidential. The themes are not.
Anxiety often tricks you into thinking that if you overthink every scenario, you’ll be safe.

It’s not true. The loop your mind keeps running isn’t protecting you, it’s keeping you stuck.

Notes from My Private Practice. Overthinking.

Over the next few weeks, I'll be sharing some of the most common patterns I've worked on with private clients for the last 15 years.

The details are always confidential. The themes are not.

It often surprises people that the issues they struggle with daily are the same ones my highest-performing clients bring to me.

People ask me how to know if they're overthinking.

Here is the distinction: if you spend more time thinking about a problem than taking steps to resolve it, you are overthinking.

Productive work ends with a result. Overthinking simply continues to loop.

In therapy, we don't work on stopping the thoughts, instead we examine what they are protecting.

When that is finally acknowledged, the loop becomes unnecessary.

Notes from My Private Practice.

People are often surprised that the difficulties they face are the same ones my highest-performing clients work on with me.

The details are always confidential. The patterns are not.

One of the most common issues they come to me with is overthinking. Not as a lack of discipline, but as the mind circling a problem it can't solve. It's a human pattern, amplified by a life with little margin for error.

The promise of a quick fix is a simplification. Lasting change requires a bespoke process, one that understands why the loop exists, not just how to silence it.
