Breaking the Stigma ⚠️
The NHS’s new campaign is urging people with anxiety to seek support, describing it as an important step in reducing stigma and increasing awareness of the range of treatment options available. Data shows some 58% of people delay seeking help believing their symptoms are not serious enough.
Terence Watts, founder of The International BWRT Institute commenting for LondonWorld this week, says “encouraging early action is crucial - anxiety is not simply overthinking - it’s an automatic survival response generated by the brain before we’re consciously aware of it. That’s why it can feel immediate and difficult to manage.”
Talking therapies have supported millions of people and remain an important part of mental healthcare. As psychological treatment has evolved alongside neuroscience there are now modern approaches such as BWRT that work more directly with the brain’s automatic threat-response systems.
