Kids Can Achieve Supporting children with Special Needs and Disabilities and their families for over 20 years.

Kids Can Achieve was formed in October 2002 by local parents, concerned professionals and members of the community in Harrow. It was formed to support local children and young people whose educational, emotional, social and psychological difficulties were not being recognised. As a result of this gap in provision these children were developing complex behaviours and lacked the social and coping skills which enable them to learn, play and socialise and have normal life opportunities. The organisation has grown rapidly and has quickly become influential and respected amongst both statutory and voluntary agencies and most importantly the families they serve. Demand for our services has increased as our profile has risen and despite our successes, we are conscious of an urgent need to expand and develop these services further. Since 2014 we have been working in partnership with The Westminster Society and we are in the process of a formal merger. We now provide a wide range of innovative services for children and young people with disabilities and their families. We involve, consult and include families so that they are key decision makers in the development of our services. Our excellent service provision is reflected in our commitment to meet the
individual needs of the people we support with
dedicated trained staff. Our emphasis is on building effective and supportive partnerships with families. Providing care and support in a safe and nurturing environment is our top priority.

On Monday we held an event at Royal Albert Hall celebrating our Family Service. 🎉

They recently achieved the Advice Quality Standard, which is an official mark which shows they give high quality advice to families of children with SEND.

We were grateful to be joined by many parents of children with SEND who we have supported. 🫶 They led a panel talk about their experiences of the SEND system, raising their children and the importance of getting the right support. It was very powerful to hear their stories.

The event was also a chance for parents to share what they'd like in the future from our Family Service and how we can continue to get it right for them.

A big thank you to the Royal Albert Hall, who kindly let us use their Elgar room for this event. 🙏

👏 Congratulations to our colleague of the month Charlie Minto. As deputy manager at Kids Can Achieve he leads the way with kindness and empathy, whether he is supporting children or checking in on the wellbeing of parents.

Charlie was inspired to support children with SEND by his two cousins. Growing up he was close to his cousins, one who has Down’s Syndrome and one with attention deficit disorder (ADHD). When they didn’t listen to their parents, sometimes Charlie would just have to give them a look and a friendly word and they would behave.

After starting his career at nurseries and supporting the elderly, we’ve been lucky to have Charlie at KCA since 2022.

They donated all these toys for children and young people at KCA! 🎁 We were lucky enough to be their chosen charity.

We know that a lot of thought and work has gone in to these gifts. Many colleagues, including the video banking team and many others, put their time and effort in to support us. We're also very grateful to the customers who also kindly donated.

Supporting children, young people and their families with learning disabilites in Harrow

We provide services for children and young people with learning disabilities aged 5 to 25 including those with physical disabilities, autism, complex communication, and behavioural needs.

We want to make a positive impact on the lives of children and young people with disabilities and their families and aim to enhance their life opportunities by providing play, outreach, short breaks, after school clubs, counselling and family support services to support children and young people to be active and contributing members of their community.

Our vision is to provide engaging, inclusive, and innovative play and experiential opportunities, which enable learning disabled children and young people to develop their social and emotional resilience in readiness for an active and fulfilling adulthood.
