🌟Crohn’s and Colitis Awareness Week: James and Rob’s Story🌟
This September, Rob ran the Richmond Marathon to raise money for St Mark’s Hospital Foundation in support of his brother James who has Crohn’s Disease.
For most of his life, James struggled with symptoms of Crohn’s, experiencing severe abdominal pain, ulcers, bleeding, aches and pains throughout the body, and generalised fatigue. In 2024, he had his initial surgery, removing part of his large intestine. Unfortunately, this did not improve his symptoms, so earlier this year he made the brave and difficult decision to have the remainder of his large intestine removed, and has been adjusting to life with a stoma.
Rob’s decision to fundraise for St Mark’s came from seeing the real difference they made for his brother and others with complex bowel diseases. He shared,
“So why a marathon? To push myself right outside of my comfort zone. For James, a good day with Crohn’s was ‘just’ being uncomfortable. Most days were painful. Since his surgery he is improving day by day… Hopefully one day, James and I will run a marathon together!”
