🌸 Free CPD-Accredited Training for Care Home Staff 🌸

We know that working with death and grief can be challenging, and it’s not always easy to talk about. That’s why we’ve teamed up with Hospice UK to offer free CPD-accredited training for care home staff, covering palliative care, grief, emotional burnout, and the practical aspects of supporting families after a loss.

Our sessions will help your team:
✅ Build confidence
✅ Improve communication when discussing loss
✅ Understand how to support residents and families
✅ Access practical guidance for tricky questions from families
✅ Boost staff wellbeing and morale

All sessions count towards your staff’s CPD hours, helping them develop professionally while supporting their team and residents.

We can come to your premises at a time that suits you, and we’re flexible with group or 1-to-1 sessions to fit staffing levels. Plus, refreshments will be provided!

If you think this would benefit your team, get in touch with us — we’d love to help.

Thank you to those who attended our Macmillan Afternoon Tea party last week. Lots of scummy eats, teas and coffee consumed, community, neighbours and friends came together. Also a big thank you to St Vincent's Charity Shop and Nubian Funeral Directors, both on Willesden High Road who joined with us. We raised over £120 for Macmillan.

1. What inspired you to work in the funeral profession?
Every time I passed the funeral home, I felt a pull in my chest to apply. Over 15 years ago, I even attended an open evening at the Westbourne Park branch but at the time, I had just accepted another job.

2. What do you find most rewarding about your role?
Helping families say goodbye in a way that truly reflects their loved one. Supporting them through that moment is a privilege.

3. How long have you worked in the industry?
13 years.

4. What does a typical day look like for you?
My day revolves around ensuring funeral arrangements run smoothly – from liaising with clients to following up on their requests and making sure every detail is in place.

5. What makes your branch special?
The history !!
our branch has been serving the community since 1802. That legacy means a lot.

6. What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Spending time with family and friends.

7. What’s something people might be surprised to learn about you?
I’m a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – and no, I don’t share a husband with ten wives!

8. Do you have a personal motto or value you live by?
Treat others as you would like to be treated.

9. How do you support families with memorials, funeral planning or specific services?
If appropriate, I raise these during the arrangement. I also provide helpful information so families can consider their options in their own time.

10. What would you like people to know about you and your role?
I genuinely enjoy what I do. Every day is different and there’s always more to learn. that keeps it meaningful.

11. What’s your go-to karaoke song?
I wouldn’t torture people with my singing!

12. Tea or coffee?
Neither – I prefer Red Bush Earl Grey and Barley Cup.

13. Describe your perfect day off.
At home, relaxing.

14. If you could have dinner with one famous person (alive or passed)?
Jesus.

A huge thank you to Age UK Barnet for welcoming us to speak at the Your Money, Your Way event.

It was a truly informative morning with a range of brilliant speakers and plenty of important questions from attendees. We were grateful for the opportunity to talk about funerals and the benefits of funeral planning and to help bust some common myths along the way.

Some of the questions we answered included:

What is a green funeral?

Can I donate my body to medical research?

How do I pay for a funeral in advance?

If you’ve ever wondered about these things or have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to reach out. No question is too small, and we’re always happy to help.

We look forward to supporting the incredible work that Age UK Barnet continues to do for the community.
