Let’s stay safe this Bonfire Night 🔥

Please remember, while fun for many, fireworks can cause serious injuries 🎆

The safest place to enjoy fireworks is at a professionally-organised public display.

If you choose to buy your own, please remember the firework code including:
🚭 Keeping naked flames, including ci******es, away from fireworks
🧯Never use paraffin or petrol on a bonfire
🧑‍🤝‍🧑 Fireworks should only be handled by adults
👀Children should be supervised and watch from a safe distance
🔥 Never return to a firework once it has been lit

We're delighted to congratulate Margaret Gye, Advanced Oncology Pharmacist at Mount Vernon Cancer Centre.

Margaret was recently awarded the prize for best oral plenary presentation at the British Oncology Pharmacy Association 2025 conference for her brilliant work in assessing the use of AI in drafting protocols for systemic anti cancer treatment.

This has involved looking at how AI can help reduce the time it takes for pharmacists to create prescribing protocols for chemotherapy. The time saved helps reduce waiting times for patients to start new treatments that have been approved for use in the NHS.

Please join us in congratulating Margaret for her award-winning work in cancer care and treatment!

It was great to welcome Paul and Kevan from Ashwell Masonic Lodge to our Breast Unit at the New QEII Hospital recently, pictured here with our wonderful NHS staff 💙

Paul, who served as Lodge Master last year, chose to support our Breast Unit in honour of the care his wife Diane received. Throughout the year, the lodge raised an incredible £2,300 through events including a Burns Night, Valentine’s Dinner and Ladies Day, all enthusiastically supported by their members.

We’re proud to have been Ashwell Lodge’s beneficiary charity for the past four years, receiving just under £10,000 in total.

These donations have helped support not only our Breast Unit, but also our Urology and Cardiology departments across the trust.

Paul said: “I honestly can’t thank the staff enough. They turned what was an incredibly traumatic time into something we could cope with. From the way they communicated every step of the process to the care and compassion they showed – we are truly grateful. Supporting the Breast Unit was our way of saying thank you.”

Thank you, Ashwell Masonic Lodge, for helping us make a difference to our patients, families and staff 🙏
