Difference between Amnesia and Dementia.
Both are conditions that affect memory but have different causes, symptoms and effects on cognitive function.
1. Amnesia primarily refers to Memory loss due to brain injury, trauma, illness or psychological stress. it's classified into two main type , namely:-
i-Anterograde Amnesia;
inability to form new memory after an injury or event.
ii- Reterograde Amnesia;
loss of memory before an injury or event.
unlike Dementia, Amnesia is typically specific to memory loss and doesn't not involve loss of other cognitive functions like judgements, problems-solving, and language . though they may struggle with recalling the past experience and remembering new information.
3. causes of Amnesia.
-Head trauma ( Brain injury)
- Infections like Encephalitis
- Alcohol
-Psychological trauma
-Stroke
4. Dementia
it's a broad category of cognitive decline that affects thinking, language, behavior and memory. it's a syndrome caused by variety of conditions.
the most causes of dementia is :-
Alzheimier's disease but it can also be caused by vascular Dementia.
Dementia tends to progresse worsely with time and impacts a person's cognitive function not just
symptoms
- memory loss but also
-Recognizing familiar people,
-Solving daily tasks
-planning daily tasks.
- Disorientation or confusion ( getting lost in familiar places)
- personality changes or mood swings
- Difficulty with motor skills or movements.

- Alzheimier's disease
- vascular disease ( Stroke)
- Parkison' s disease .
