Lips and eyes play the most important role in attractiveness of our face. Well-defined, full lips (but not overfilled) with a slight upward curl are a generally recognised sign of beauty and youthfulness.

The lip profile, Volume, shape and harmony with the overall face are some of the main factors that are of key importance in facial aesthetics.

Lip enhancement goes beyond filling lips with dermal fillers randomly. It truly is an art and requires much knowledge and skill.

Factors affecting aesthetics of lips include:
* -The skeletal structure of the face
* -The dentition
* -Musculature
* -Fat pads in the area
* -Relative position of the lips to the nose and chin

Other factors include:
* Lip posture
* Speaking and eating habits

Happy New Year!
Let’s start the year with some beautiful smiles and lips!

Smile….smiling has scientifically been proven to make you more beautiful!
When you smile, your brain releases tiny molecules called neuropeptides to help fight off stress. Then other neurotransmitters like dopamine, serotonin and endorphins come into play too. Furthermore, signals in the brain of people seeing you, makes you look more attractive in their perception.

A gummy smile, known as excessive gingival display in doctor speak, is when you smile and too much gum tissue shows above the top teeth. This can be aesthetically bothersome for some. In my opinion, this is really case dependant and matter of perspective.

This is due to many different factors including
* Genetics
* Oral hygiene
* Position of the teeth
* Muscles around the lips
* Size and position of the lips
* Excess gum growth due to side effect of some medications

In other terms, a combination of:
1. The amount of gum tissue display
2. The size and shape of the teeth
3. The length and the degree of movement of the upper lip
4. The vertical position of the upper jaw and teeth in relationship to the skull.

Can it be treated using non-surgically?
In some cases, YES!

Please see your dentist to ensure good hygiene and no gingival overgrowth. At times surgery may be required.

In some cases, botulinum toxins can be used to reduce muscle movement and dermal fillers to increase lip volume, or in most cases a combination to reduce appearance of “gummy smile” and enhance aesthetics of the lower face.💋👄
