This week, host Catherine Fairweather is joined by acclaimed British author and journalist Sofka Zinovieff for a conversation that moves between identity, family history, love, and loss with striking clarity. A former resident of Russia, Rome, the UK and now Athens, Sofka enjoys a rare vantage point on belonging, and the freedom that comes from living beyond labels.

We explore her latest book Stealing Dad and the complex emotions surrounding grief, ritual, and what it means to say goodbye. Sofka speaks with candour about fractured families, the stories we inherit, and the quiet ways we seek connection after loss. Her insight is both grounded and deeply human.

We were thrilled to welcome the English National Ballet School to Auriens Chelsea this week, as the students brought joy to our residents with a magical performance of 'The Fairytale of Tchaikovsky’, choreographed by the School's Artistic Director Lynne Charles.

Our ongoing partnership with the English National Ballet School will provide many more opportunities for our residents to engage with the work of the students, in particular the first year student that Auriens Chelsea will be supporting throughout their training.

A Tribute to Sir Tom Stoppard, surely, the most beloved and celebrated playwright and screenwriter of his generation?

Here, we look back at his guest appearance on The Third Act Podcast; when he talks about an ideal death as a kind of gradual drifting away. It turns out his wish was granted; he was fortunate to experience the end of his life free from pain, at peace, at home, surrounded by his books, his wonderful devoted wife Sabrina who looked after him so well, friends and family. His last moments were as graceful and gentle and elegant as the life he led.

In memory of Sir Tom Stoppard.

Auriens presents Series Four, Episode Five of ‘The Third Act’ hosted by Catherine Fairweather, in conversation with Canadian journalist Graydon Carter. The former Editor-in-Chief of Vanity Fair , co-founder of satirical monthly magazine, Spy, and founder of Air Mail Weekly, his mobile-first digital weekly which he stepped away from last month.

In this episode Graydon recalls the golden era of print magazines, so vividly conjured in his best-selling memoir When the Going was Good. He muses upon the challenges of redefining journalism in a digital age, satire that “punches up,” and the importance of keeping your mind sharp, and curiosity alive as we get older.

We were delighted to welcome Gyles Brandreth back to Auriens to introduce his new book Somewhere, a Boy and a Bear, a biography of A. A. Milne, the author of Winnie the Pooh, who once lived just around the corner from Auriens Chelsea on Mallord Street.

With 2026 marking the centenary of this much-loved character, Gyles shared anecdotes from his life, explored the essence of Pooh’s special philosophy and reflected on the reasons behind his enduring appeal.

At Auriens, our programme of events offers our residents entertainment that inspires, educates, and delights. Gyles’ visit was a perfect example of the vibrant community experiences our residents enjoy.
