In the UK, half of adults engage in some form of gambling.
For many, it’s a recreational pastime.
But for a growing number of people, gambling has moved into compulsion.
Whether it’s casinos, betting, card games, online or off, when gambling gets out of control, the consequences can be devastating.
An estimated 2.8% of adults in England engage in at-risk or problem gambling behaviours, and around 20% of the population is directly or indirectly harmed by gambling, including partners, children, and family members.
What does compulsive gambling look like?
* Gambling more frequently or for longer than intended
* Chasing losses
* Secrecy around money or betting
* Feelings of anxiety, shame, or irritability
* Growing financial issues that feel out of control
At Innisfree Therapy, we recognise that gambling addiction is often connected to emotional regulation, trauma, stress, or co-occurring mental health difficulties.
Our therapeutic approach focuses on understanding the drivers behind compulsive gambling and supporting lasting change, not blame or moral judgement.
You don’t have to reach a crisis point to ask for help.
