What are the benefits of type 1 diabetes screening?

Preventative care: Early screening gives you the chance to take action sooner, with interventions that can help delay the start of type 1 diabetes.

Improved outcomes: Acting early may lead to improved outcomes, including more stable blood sugar levels (HbA1c) and fewer complications over time.

Know your risk: Screening shows if you’re at higher risk, especially if you have a close family member with type 1 diabetes.

At London Medical, our early type 1 diabetes screening is consultant-led. This means your care is guided by London’s leading diabetes specialists.

Screening involves a simple blood test to check for markers called autoantibodies. If two or more autoantibodies are present, your risk of developing type 1 diabetes is much higher. Knowing this early gives you time to plan and take steps to protect you or your loved one’s health.

If you’re found to be at risk, we offer a treatment called immunotherapy which delays the onset of type 1 diabetes. This is delivered in partnership with Cromwell Hospital in Kensington.
