Close the Care Gap: Start with Knowledge. đŸŽ—ïž
Today is . While we often think of cancer as an individual battle, new research reminds us that our health is deeply connected to those we love.

A study from the University of Utah has uncovered a unique link: male infertility can be an early indicator of cancer risks across three generations of a family. From colon and testicular cancer to pediatric risks, your reproductive health is a window into your family’s wellness.

This World Cancer Day, we aren't just raising awareness—we're encouraging action. Understanding your fertility is a proactive step for your future and your family’s.

Blue Monday in the UK is Monday 19 January 2026, but the idea of “the most depressing day of the year” isn’t scientific. What is real is the January dip: grey weather, money stress, work pressure, and that quiet TTC worry that can sit in the background all day.

If you’re trying for a baby, stress often doesn’t show up as one big thing. It shows up in your habits. Worse sleep. More caffeine. More scrolling. More alcohol. Less movement. Less intimacy because you’re shattered.

We wrote a simple 7-day reset to help you feel 5–10% better by the end of the week, while also supporting s***m-friendly routines:

protect the last hour before bed

add 20 minutes of gentle movement

upgrade one meal

try one alcohol-free night

have one real conversation

choose clarity over guesswork (a baseline test can reduce anxiety)

Does the “water s***m test” actually work? 💧
No. It can’t tell you s***m count or motility, and it often misleads people.

The “water s***m test” myth. Lots of men try it, then trust the result like it’s science. It isn’t.

If you want clarity, use a proper test and focus on the numbers that matter.

Do energy drinks affect s***m count or motility? ⚡
Heavy energy drink use can disrupt sleep and spike stimulants, which may affect s***m health indirectly.

Energy drinks and fertility. It’s rarely just caffeine. It’s the combo. Sugar, stimulants, poor sleep, and stress masking.

If you’re cutting back, pairing the habit change with a baseline s***m check can help you track progress.

What is a s***matocele, and should I worry?
A s***matocele is usually a harmless cyst near the testicle, but you should get it checked if it’s new or worrying.

Found a lump and your brain went straight to worst case? A s***matocele is common and often harmless, but it still deserves a proper check.

If it’s painful, growing, or worrying you, speak to your GP.

What did ancient men believe helped fertility? đŸ›ïž
Some “fertility advice” from history is myth, but parts link back to lifestyle basics we still talk about today.

Ancient men worried about fertility too. Different era. Same human theme. Lifestyle, stress, food, and “am I actually ok?”

If you like science-meets-real-life posts, I’ll share more of these alongside the practical stuff.

Dry January Week 1 is the hardest
 and the fastest win. đŸ»đŸš«

Most people think the benefits take weeks.
But Week 1 hits first because alcohol messes with 2 things straight away: sleep + hydration.

What you might notice in just a few days:
✅ fewer 3am wake-ups
✅ less groggy mornings
✅ steadier energy (no “mini hangovers”)
✅ skin looks less puffy
✅ better focus

If you’re TTC, this matters too. Sleep, hydration, and lower oxidative stress all support hormone balance and s***m health over time.

Try this simple Week 1 plan:

Pick your go-to alcohol-free drink

Drink a big glass of water before bed

Keep the same bedtime 3 nights in a row

Dry January starts now. đŸ»đŸš«
Not as a punishment. More like a reset.

If you quit alcohol for a month, week 1 is usually the fastest “wow” moment:
Better sleep. Less dehydration. More energy. Clearer mornings. 😮💧

And if you’re trying for a baby (or just want your body working better), a break from alcohol can support hormone balance and s***m quality over time too.

If you’re doing Dry January, save this and come back each week to check what’s changing for you.

Most guys think “saving it up” gives you better chances of pregnancy.

But longer abstinence is not always better. 👀

Here’s the simple version:

Longer abstinence can increase volume and s***m count

Shorter abstinence often improves the “quality” side like motility and DNA health

In IVF research, a recent randomized trial (preprint) found higher pregnancy and ongoing pregnancy rates when men ej******ed within 48 hours before providing the IVF sample, compared with abstaining 2 to 7 days.
SSRN

For couples trying naturally, the guidance is still pretty uns*xy but effective:
✅ s*x every 2 to 3 days across the month (takes pressure off timing)
✅ or every 1 to 2 days during the fertile window if you’re timing things
ASRM

So if you’ve been told to “wait a week”
it might be worth asking why.

Question for the comments: what were you told, 2 days
 5 days
or “as long as possible”? 👇

Previous research has suggested that s***m quality has dropped by half over the past 50 to 70 years, meaning more people than ever are reliant on medical help to fall pregnant.

Trying for a baby in 2026? đŸ‘¶âœš
This is the stuff that can quietly wreck s***m health long before you notice.

A recent Daily Mail piece rounds up 9 “s***m-damaging” habits men should tackle for the New Year. It’s not just the obvious ones like smoking and heavy drinking. It also touches on things many guys don’t clock as “fertility” issues, like:

✅ poor sleep
✅ lots of ultra processed food
✅ sitting all day and no movement
✅ overheating the “equipment” (hot baths, laptops on lap, tight gear)
✅ stress on repeat
✅ steroids or testosterone misuse
✅ recreational drugs

If “becoming a dad” is on your 2026 goals list, this is a solid checklist to start with.

Which one would you fix first? 👇

It's crucial not to overlook the significant role men's health plays right from the start of wanting to have a baby.
