Stillpoint Spaces London At Stillpoint Spaces London, we are exploring psychology, in depth, inside and outside the consulting room. Drop by for a visit!

At Stillpoint Spaces London we are exploring psychology, in depth, inside and outside the consultation room. Our organisation was founded by psychotherapists who were keen to bring psychotherapeutic thinking into the 21st century by applying ideas from the clinic to culture. We are creating an international community of psychologically curious individuals through our city venues and online platform. In London, we promote ideas from psychology, psychotherapy, counselling, and psychoanalysis through our events, our handsomely appointed consulting rooms availabe to qualified therapists, and our innovative "open source" psychology co-working hub open to psychologically minded individuals. We are open to both clinicians and the psychologically curious offering work spaces for both, alongside community building through our programme of events and workshops.

In both developmental psychology and psychoanalysis, emphasis on the mother has tended to be about scrutiny of the mother as an attachment object. Mother-infant observation and relational psychology have helped bring maternal subjectivity into view.
Our seminar will begin with a feminist-critical review of this history. Then, we will consider ways of listening for mothering identities and maternal subjectivity across the lifespan of adult clients. We will attune to clients’ histories with fertility, pregnancy, mothering, abortion, and changing bodies. While the main emphasis is on female-identified clients, listening for maternal subjectivity has implications across genders that will be useful for all clinicians.

About the speaker

Tracy Sidesinger, PsyD, is a clinical psychologist in New York. After earning her doctorate, she continued her training at the Jungian Psychoanalytic Association in NYC and The William Alanson White Institute. A mother herself, she uses personal experience alongside her work with patients to bring a feminist lens back to psychotherapy.

On October 29th we are running an event on Transgender Resilience. We'll be hearing from Marianne Rossert who transitioned while working at the World Bank. She will be drawing on her own personal experiences to share what she believes clinicians and healthcare workers need to know about being transgender. This is an unusual opportunity for psychological clinicians to learn from a non-clinician with lived experience.

Buy a ticket or become a professional member and attend free as part of your membership:

Transgender Resilience: Reflections From What I've Learnt Along the Way

What makes some trans people survive when others don’t? Hear Marianne Rossert speak about the inner forces that keep trans people alive.

n the US, trans people attempt su***de about eight times more than the rest of the population. For most trans people, the gender transition starts with pondering whether to live and change gender or whether to die. In spite of a society generally hostile to the idaea of changing gender, what makes the trans people strong enough to go through the trials and tribulations of gender transition?

Based on her own experience and her observation of the trans community, Marianne Rossert will argue that trans resilience has five components:

(i) The ability to analyse complex situations;

(ii) An inclination and willingness to circumvent social constraints while complying with essential rules;

(iii) Forms of spirituality that give a meaning to their transition or enable them to extract themselves from contingencies;

(iv) An overdeveloped ability to love and to despise;

(v) The ability to cope with pain, or rather to make effective trade-offs between psychological and physical pain.

The concluding remarks of this online seminar will include practical advice for health professionals on how to help trans people embrace life with their gender identity. We will also look at the ways in which families of trans people can be supported in the right way through the transition of their loved ones and beyond. Our final goal is to offer a glimpse of what society loses when rejecting trans people.

About the speaker

Marianne Rossert is an international civil servant who transitioned late in life. She holds three Master degrees (business, public administration, and economics) and has nearly thirty years of experience working for international organisations, on topics related to economics, governance, and ethics. She has a wife and three children.

This event is free to Stillpoint Professional Members. Become a member today or buy a ticket for this one event.

Stillpoint has a deep passion for applying psychological ideas to culture in accessible ways that any psychological enthusiast can enjoy. That's why we have hosted discussions every month on and by Dr. Kevin Lu, who usually brings a Jungian angle to his chosen topics.

This week we're looking at fantasies of the future in film - drawing on The Green Night and The Last Temptation of Christ. As with all our "Explorer Events" these hosted discussions are free to all our members alongside our weekly wellbeing programme, discussion about psychology this week, and monthly discussions on critical psychology, and psychology and business.

If you're not already a member why don't you try it for two weeks for free? If you set up a membership now, you can come to Kevin's event and see for yourself if membership is for you!

Our followers may be interested in this upcoming event put on by Online Events CPD. They have assembled a panel of mental health professionals to explore what we here at Stillpoint have been asking since our inception, and more specifically over recent weeks since the war in Ukraine began - What can mental health professionals do in the face of global injustice?

Stillpoint will be sponsoring five of its members to attend this conference for free.

This event is available for a self-selected donation and all profits will go to the UN Crisis Relief Appeal. This is a real opportunity to dig deep into how clinicians can thoughtfully and critically contribute to global injustice while supporting the the UN relief appeal at the same time.

A big thanks to Onlinevents CPD for organising such an important event!
