How many would you have got right? πŸ€”

We took to the streets to test people's knowledge on some common weight loss and nutrition myths.

Here's what we asked:

β€’ Diet products are always better for you – FALSE ❌

They're often packed with lots of artificial ingredients and don't keep us full.

β€’ Vegetables should make up what proportion of your plate? – HALF πŸ₯’

The biggest proportion of your plate.

β€’ You can't reduce fat in one area of your body – TRUE βœ…

Your body loses fat evenly across your whole body, not from targeted areas.

β€’ You should avoid eating fat to lose fat – FALSE πŸ₯‘

Healthy fats are essential for keeping you fuller for longer and supporting your overall health.

β€’ How many people have we helped to lose weight? – 300,000+ πŸŽ‰

And none of them had to follow restrictive diets or count calories.

"This two-ingredient bread actually delivers. Just flour and yoghurt, and it took me 5 minutes to throw together and 15 minutes in the oven. The texture came out beautifully spongy and light, exactly what I wasn't expecting!"

What makes this different to shop-bought bread:
🍞 Uses just flour and yoghurt, no added sugars or preservatives
🍞 Make small batches so nothing goes to waste
🍞 Ready in 20 minutes from start to finish

If you are looking for alternatives to ultra-processed options but find that fresher supermarket bread is more expensive and doesn't last long enough, making small batches of these rolls at home can be really convenient and cost-effective.

Bread often gets unfairly blamed in diet culture, and now with growing awareness of processed food, shop-bought bread has been getting negative attention.

But the truth is, both home-made and shop-bought bread can be part of a healthy diet.

Sourdough and wholemeal options provide fibre, B vitamins, and sustained energy throughout your day. It's not about cutting things out, it's about finding what supports your goals.

Comment 'healthy swaps' if you fancy trying it too; we will send you the recipe πŸ₯―

Be sure to message us with any healthy swaps you'd like us to try so you don't have to!

Is nutrition ever as simple as this? πŸ₯‘

When it comes to weightloss, we often find ourselves looking for the next big thing...

Something new and complicated that promises to be the magic fix.

But the truth is, effective nutrition advice is more straightforward than it's made out to be on social media.

Change isn't easy, but you can make it feel much more manageable, and more like Second Nature, by following guidance that is maintainable and sustainable.

What do diets and New Year's resolutions have in common?...

They're unrealistic, unsustainable, and keep you stuck in the same cycle year after year.

By now, you may be 9 days into a new diet or resolution. It could be a good time to ask yourself the following question:

"Can I see myself keeping this up until April?"

If the answer is no, it's likely that the changes you're making or the habits you're adopting are too drastic.

When it comes to exercise, diet, and weight loss goals, resist the urge to go to extremes this month.

Small, manageable changes are what actually stick.

At Second Nature, our nutritionists, dietitians and psychologists can help you build sustainable, healthy habits that will last well beyond the month of January. Visit our website today via the link in our bio πŸ”— ⬆️

If your New Year's resolutions already feel harder than you expected, you're not doing anything wrong.

A lot of goals fall apart because they're too big or too vague, not because we lack motivation.

Something our health coaches see a lot at Second Nature is that small, habit-focused changes that fit into real life tend to last longer than big "fresh start" goals.

Ask yourself: What's one change I could realistically make and maintain? And why this actually matters to me?

Intrinsic vs extrinsic motivation: why it matters πŸ’

January brings a tidal wave of pressure to transform ourselves. But here's what research actually shows: intrinsic motivation is what keeps us going long term, no matter the time of year.

When your 'why' comes from within (improving your health, feeling stronger, having more energy), you're far more likely to stick with changes. When it's driven by New Year pressure, social media comparison, or external validation, you're more likely to fall into all-or-nothing thinking and struggle when life gets messy.

Extrinsic motivations aren't inherently bad. But they can't sustain you alone.

The goal isn't perfection or a "new year, new you" transformation. It's developing self-awareness about what truly drives you.

So before you jump into resolutions: What's your main motivation for making healthy changes? Is it coming from within, or are you responding to external pressures?
