To avoid detection, messages tend to use shorthands, but if you’re not familiar, you could end up agreeing to something you don’t mean to. People who use drugs or are in recovery face real, preventable risks during cancer treatment - mostly because of stigma, fear, and fragmented care.

They may be reluctant to seek care
Symptoms may be easier to miss
They may be starting treatment from a less healthy base, underweight or malnourished)
They may be unwilling to be honest about drug taking due to perceived stigma
They may not have access to integrated care for substance use and cancer
They may struggle to keep on top of appointments for treatment
They may be fearful of taking pain relief, especially if in recovery, or at risk of overdoseTalking about it openly saves lives.

We help anyone living our working in Hammersmith & Fulham to understand the risks associated with drug and alcohol use, providing non judgemental support to anyone looking to make positive changes.

HIV is a risk associated with sharing needles. Needle exchanges in the area offer free sterile needles and we can point you in the right direction. We're also here to answer any questions you have about HIV transmission and the treatments available to prevent the spread.
